cjboffoliParticipantOh good. Shortest day of the year. That means the hours of daylight start increasing again tomorrow.

flowerpetalMemberWe lit a few Solstice candles last night. One we lit in the name of all of our friends, naming some of them out loud. Within two minutes two of them telephoned us just to say hi!

rykriteMemberOh that’s lovely! I’m disappointed to miss our solstice service at WSUU this morning, but grateful not to drive.
.
We lit candles last night, too, but didn’t know of the tradition you mentioned. I’m going to add that to my list of things to do NEXT solstic. Thanks, flowerpetal!

AimParticipantHappy Solstice, folks. It’s a lovely day out there. Positively beautiful.

herongrrrlParticipantHappy Solstice!
We usually go up to the Admiral viewpoint to watch the solstice sunrise with cocoa and cookies, then head down to Luna Park for breakfast. But with the freezing rain this morning we opted to stay at home and watch the dark grey turn to light grey from the front yard. It’s still a beautiful White Solstice!

flowerpetalMemberHerongrrrl, what a nice tradition that is. Many keep a fire burning all night on Solstice eve to “assure” the return of the light after the longest night. I like your way of welcoming back the light.
Still we have a long winter ahead of us; but I look forward to the light’s return and as Erik said above, shorts and sunblock! Woo Hoo!

AimParticipantAgreed with all above. I do miss having a fireplace currently, but will remember the idea of watching the sunrise with hot beverage of choice for next year! Thank you for the idea, herongrrrl.
