    Oh no….

I’m just going to say it. I still talk on my cell phone, in my car, every day. And I’m not trying to cut back.

I argue that I DO very much pay attention to my surroundings, other drivers, pedestrians as much as without my cell. If I see something that requires extra attention I’ll throw the phone down or even just hang up on the person I’m talking to.

I too get frustrated by “those” cell phone drivers that are in their own world. It can be done responsibly, and I am no more or less safe than I was a couple months ago when that law went into effect.

I understand the argument, but we’re not all idiots.

Just my personal experience, but I recently switched to a Bluetooth headset while driving and feel it is easier to concentrate on the road. Don’t know why it’s better than holding the phone to my head, but it is. Much more similar to talking to a person actually in the car. I didn’t expect this, but now I’m a believer.

Hey, a friend of mine was ticketed(about 2-3 weeks ago) 120 some odd dollars for talking on her cell phone. Er, I mean she was pulled over for going 2 miles over the speed limit. And out of the goodness of his heart he let her go on the speeding ticket. But got her for the cell phone! It is easy to find someone doing something wrong if you are scrutinizing. This happened along W. Marginal Wy. She said she saw the guy and made great efforts to abide by all laws but alas, he clocked her 2 miles over…That being said, I think driving with kids under the age of 6 in the car should be illegal. Holy cow, the road is a safer place now that my kids are older. And another thing, I have noticed fewer folks on cell phones since this new law. I often sit, waitng, for my kids to get off the school bus. Same busy intersection, same time of day for the past several years. And I have counted. My stats are fewer obvious cell phone chatters.

Day before yesterday I saw a COP driving down admiral way with a cell phone glued to his head. Got a chuckle out of that one.

That’s because it’s legal for Law Enforcement Officials to use a cell phone and drive. They are exempt in this new law.

It’s also legal if you’re calling 911. I wonder, though, is it legal if you’re following the instruction to call and report litterers?

It is the conversation that gets me.

This is the same reason I will walk miles rather than take the bus.

I maintain my tenuous hold on sanity by burying the knowledge that my fellow man is as dumb as a bag of hammers.

Loud cell phone conversations pierce that defensive veil.

The urge to clean up my local corner of the gene pool has to once again be suppressed.
