zencookMemberAnybody seen this yet, or have other signs been hacked around Seattle recently?

SueParticipantLove it! Haven’t seen that elsewhere before. I wonder who you’d report something like that to?

austinMemberA variation on the now classic zombie warning system.

WSBKeymasterSDOT’s Charles St. dispatch
206-386-1218
Staffed 24 hours so there *should* be someone there. I’ll go ahead and sound no-fun here, may be funny but these signs usually warn you of trouble/changes ahead and if this one’s not doing that, it could be a safety hazard.

WSBKeymasterWe went to check it out (after also getting an e-mailed photo, not from the OP here as far as we can tell), and it’s true.
Had to debate whether to publish it on the front page, since to some degree that clashes with our policy about not showcasing tagging and other potentially brag-sparking vandalism, but as another journalist friend who runs a WSB-esque operation on the East Coast pointed out, it’s news because it’s (a) unique, (b) a safety hazard, (c) not necessarily easily replicable. And we really want to know why SDOT/contractors haven’t taken what are reported to be fairly easy steps to prevent this kind of thing. Might not get the answer to that until the office staff returns after the holiday …

DPMemberDoes this mean SDOT is legally liable if someone’s shorts get eaten?

WSBKeymasterMight’ve been liable if God forbid a crash had happened in the interim, even if the crash seemed completely unrelated … As added to the home page story, I just got e-mail from the project manager saying it’s been changed back. (We’d sent e-mail to SDOT Communications, thinking maybe somebody was monitoring on the holiday weekend.) We’re off to verify.

BlendParticipantwould have been better if they warned us of Chupacabras ahead. Because that IS serious and people should be warned.
