Russia is responsible for well over 30,000,000 murders in the last eighty years. You should realize that Russia has used radioactive poisoning to murder two people in Britain and attempted to do the same to the leader of the Ukraine? What happens when the Russians cut off natural gas supplies to Europe during the winter as they have done previously? Can you really defend a nation like that when you might be their next victim if their hideous actions go unchecked?

Can any American or European think that Putin is a friend of minority rights, or of Europe?

Again, perhaps I don’t include enough information but I suspect that I am the only one here who has lived under communist rule and I am the only one who knows what it is like to live without freedom that have posted on this topic. If I am wrong I would love to hear from you.

Interesting figure. If you’re talking about deaths in that Stalinist period it might even be true.

The only estimates I have seen that were that high include famine, cold and WWII.

The famine was cyclical and caused by drought. Stalinist policies plus regional corrupt officials exacerbated the death toll and the failure of the wheat crop (1931 and 1932 I think) beyond the famines experienced under the tsar. Deaths from cold include poorly fed and clothed peasants as well as huge numbers of those in “work camps” or gulags.

Google forced collectivization to see how this triggered some terrible consequences.

20 million seems to be the accepted figure by most historians for WWII though recent documents seem to be pushing that figure upward.

If you have any actual historians studies then whip them out. If you wish to conflate all deaths in that time period as “murders” then you need to supply a few links to back it up.

Your last paragraph is seems to resemble Argumentum ad Verecundiam. Can you explain why this should not be the assumption?

yes, Russia did invade other countries… but in the end that didn’t work out so well for them.

if you lived under a communist regime, am i wrong in assuming you are from one of those countries? If so, your view on Russian tanks in Georgia is understandable.

But Russia and communism as the bogeyman?

that just doesn’t have the same status here as it once did.
