jwwsParticipantFor the third time in a week or so I’ve woken up to my front courtyard water feature totally drained by my midnight marauding raccoons (those little opposable thumbs are great for unscrewing the bubbler and somehow these guys think it is just GREAT FUN to do – not to mention munching my water plants, tipping them over, sitting on them and increasing my water bill!). But today they crossed the line, breaking one of my glass floats leaving behind only a small glass shard (did they run off with the remainder of the float ‘cuz I can’t find it anywhere?). So BOLO for a Genesee Hill raccoon with a cobalt blue bobble stuck on nose or hand. Guess I’ll be visiting Avalon Glassworks soon….

timeslidParticipantI too have been the victim of those masked bandits. They have upended my pond plants, broken the filter connections, and taken out the shiny marbles and stones from the pots and piled them in the yard. So…..mouse traps. I have been setting them every night and tripping them in the morning (Bird risk you know). This seems to have solved the problem for now. Dang raccoons are a pain.

TDeParticipantGet a scarecrow… which is a motion sensored water jet sprinkler. I got one last year at The Oasis Water Gardens and it worked like a charm for my water feature, which was being trampled nightly by raccoons. Only took once or twice for them to revise their route through the yard, to avoid the water feature. They really don’t like being blasted by a strong random stream of water… and it doesn’t hurt them. Just annoys them.
