MargLMemberI’m about to dig mass quantities of these naturalized flower bulbs out of my backyard. They are starting to take over and need to be thinned. They spread quickly in our Seattle weather and vary in color from blue/purple to pink/white.
Post here or PM if you’re interested.

B-squaredParticipantput them in at your own risk!!! you will never be rid of them if you change your mind.

alki_2008ParticipantThat’s what those blue plants are called!
Thanks for posting this, as I was wondering where all those plants in my yard came from after I cleared out a bunch of weeds and other foliage.

B-squaredParticipantThey are immensely difficult to get rid of even if you pull up the bulbs, you inevitabley miss a few and they propagate like mad. too bad they aren’t edible.

IrukandjiParticipantLovely and low maintenance gift that keeps on giving!

squareeyesParticipantIt took me 3-4 years to get rid of most of those plants; they completely take over in a very short period of time. They still pop up here and there but are few enough to be controlled now.
Now I wish I could eradicate the shotweed as easily.

alki_2008ParticipantJust googled shotweed…yeah, I have those too. :(

MargLMemberYes, they do grow… umm… efficiently and can be difficult to get rid of if you decide you have enough. But, I figured just maybe someone would be interested and so I’d offer. Celeste17 suggested I donate some to the Furry Faces plant sale (great idea!) so I plan on doing that, too.
May 5, 2009 at 2:23 am #665989
charlabobParticipantCeleste identified them for me when we picked up a basket from Furry Friends on Sunday. (Celeste, you didn’t tell me you wanted some — if you want a few thousand more, let me know.) They’ve completely taken over what used to be my drought garden/front yard and are moving quickly around the house. I didn’t know I could *EVER* dislike anything purple, but I’m getting close here.
Seriously is there any way to contain them without eliminating them?

JoBParticipantif anyone still has plants.. i would be tickled to come get some… i believe in replacing weeds with “weeds’ of a better class.. i just replaced a bed of weeds with mint this morning…
May 5, 2009 at 1:50 pm #665991
charlabobParticipantCome get ’em. You know where I live and you won’t have any trouble finding them. I even have shovels and can provide plastic pots that I haven’t recycled yet. (Do y’all know we can now recycle plastic pots rather than, um, collecting them?) :-)
May 5, 2009 at 6:21 pm #665992
JoBParticipantcharlabob… i will.. sounds like as good an excuse as any to get together:)
May 5, 2009 at 6:23 pm #665993
charlabobParticipantThis applies to everyone — PM and we’ll arrange a transfer. :-) There are plenty for all — when I come home after a rain, I’m convinced they’ve multiplied in two hours.

GinaParticipantcharlabob–why not wait and see when the bulbs from my yard and the bulbs from your yard meet? Looks like mine are moving 6 feet to the north every year…
