Mark32ParticipantI guess I’m just wrong or naive; I tend to believe everyone wants what’s best for the country each in their own way. The blanket statement that all Democrats want to tax and spend or all Republicans want to cut taxes on the rich is just not fair. I’m sure both parties want a little of both but we don’t elect the right people willing to work together to get it done. Whatever happened to the Scoop Jackson’s and Dan Evans that were willing to work together? Norm Dicks is the last of them in my eyes.
JoB, The audit Al Gore did on govt. agencies is exactly what I want. We just need a congress willing to act on it.
JanS, maybe cut spending on everything by 10% or whatever percent is needed to balance the budget.
July 25, 2010 at 2:47 pm #699291
c@lbobMemberYour unwillingness to state what you’d cut is worrisome. To ask “Why can’t we all get along”, but then say cut everything means, to me, that you’ve determined a solution, but are unwilling to state who you are willing to hurt with it.
The added misery for the already miserable caused by an across the board 10% cut would be punitive to tens of millions of poor people, people who are least able to cope with it. It would be hardly noticeable to the plutocrats who actually bloat the budget. Their solution to stoke their always increasing profits would be to increase the ranks of the miserable. With or without the cut.
Politically, the devil will wear a parka before the defense budget is cut by even the 7.5% to which your proposed cut would whittle my modest proposal. The media would be full of paid, as well as seeminbly unpaid, statements about how some swarthy people would be removing our heads with scimitars.

JoBParticipantMark32
forgive me if i am wrong.. but i think they did.
that went out the window when George W Bush walked in the door and the republican greed-fest heated up…
the party that advocates for small government actually increases it every time they are in power.
This is what has happened to the middle class while the republicans had the reigns… courtesy of hubby..
lest you blame Obama.. the stats are predominantly before he took over… as i think are most of the stats that generated their suggested cuts..
however.. if you keep following links.. the cuts suggested in this business report hit poor people hardest…
i kept waiting for the one that suggested we cut military expenditures.. it didn’t happen.

JanSParticipantyou all do realize they just approved $60B more for the “war” in Afghanistan? 60B!!

JiggersMemberI’m almost scared to think that Obama’s Administration was set up back as far as 9-11 by the Republicans to fail. As a proud American, I’d really hate to think that the Bush Administration had credible knowledge that 9-11 was going to happen and didn’t prevent it. My take is they let 9-11 happen, used it as an excuse to declare war and increased our national debt, combined with the housing/bank crisis, millions of lost jobs etc..etc..Obama inherited a disaster that continues to snowball. Some of the bleeding has stopped, but as we can see, unemployment extensions are signs of a very slow recovery. Obama took the Oath of Office knowingly what a nightmare he was about to underatake. It’s just to bad that the Republicans can’t see past their noses and look for every excuse to mudsling and defimate the Democratic party with no basis to it. Both parties have major faults, but it is us the people who are suffering because they can’t function as a whole. Gawd I hope 9-11 was a surprise to the government. As for me, I’m Agnostic with politics like religion. I do my homework and vote for who represents me the best.
To add: You probably can go back and blame Clinton’s Adminstration as well.
July 25, 2010 at 10:16 pm #699296
JoBParticipantJiggers…
if you look at who they ran as president and VP candidate… it’s easy to think that they set up the democrats to win the election and take the fall for their avarice…
and to secure the boomerang vote to take back congress:(
it would be a big mistake to let them take the majority in either house…
if we think they are obstructionist now…
July 25, 2010 at 11:15 pm #699297
JiggersMemberJoB..Both parties know they can’t function without the other to some extent. It would be almost communistic if it were that way.
As of for the boomerang effect, losing thousands of American lives in the process when it could have been prevented, is just not cool. But we’ll never be able to prove that now won’t we.
July 26, 2010 at 2:19 am #699298
JoBParticipantjiggers..
i can’t believe they “knew” about 911.
they may have had some warning that something might happen.. but what did was pretty extraordinary…
i am guessing they were as dumbfounded as the rest of us..
if you want to count lost lives… bush may have believed his would be a 6 day war. cheney knew better.

WorldCitizenParticipantYou don’t even have to cut a large percentage of Military spending to make an impact on our economy:

JoBParticipantor you could dial taxes back to 1980 rates…
just saying…
i am betting most of us would actually pay less.
do you realize that a household income of 75K+ will put you in the top 10% of all US wage earners? amazing isn’t it… puts a different spin on the words “air share”.

HMC RichParticipantJob, you are starting to sound like the truthers. Do you really want to go there?
Mark32. Hang in there. I do not know you or your political affiliation. Thanks for joining the circus with the rest of us clowns.
Disclaimer: If you are an easily offended liberal or commie in training, please leave and do not read the rest of this post.

A few of them are righteous in their condemnation of alternative thought but think they speak for everyone. They need to go to the eye doctor to get their myopic view fixed!
Myopic –adjective
1.
Ophthalmology . pertaining to or having myopia; nearsighted.
2.
unable or unwilling to act prudently; shortsighted.
3.
lacking tolerance or understanding; narrow-minded.
Sad really. Here you go, offer a reasonable explanation. 10 percent cut across the board on everything, but you see you left out the fact that business is evil, the Rich are also evil, people will die and starve, because secularists or social progressives are more religious than the religious. They love to blame and tell you how wrong and stupid you are but, criticize them and you are EVIL. YOU ARE SATAN’S SPAWN.
Oh no, will my Anti-Alinsky shield hold? Did you ever notice Alinsky and Lewinsky rhyme? Sorry, Low Blow. Ooops. Maybe I should just lie!!! Or get a massage in Portland. That sure warmed something up. Is it the ocean’s that will rise or something else. Crude, Yes. But I am in league with Lucifer or so I have been told.
You are not evil. But, to clarify, Reagan is Satan. Sarah Palin is his wife. And Rush Limbaugh is their child. Hey, I think I could have a sitcom! Wait a minute, something like that was probably written on JournOList. I think it was titled. If you ain’t a liberal journalist you ain’t scat. Oh no my left wing conspiracy is alive and well. And I thought they were unbiased. Silly me.
Eventually, even with the name calling, I would like to see some actual solutions that are based in reality.
Thanks for chiming in. You deserved better. So do the American People.
July 29, 2010 at 3:14 pm #699303
JanSParticipantAs a massage therapist of long standing, I take offense at one of your remarks….but that’s another story for another time.
I love how your true colors come out when you’re trying to be “cute”.
July 29, 2010 at 3:30 pm #699304
JoBParticipantHMCRich..
you are the one doing the name calling.
There is a huge distance between evil and inequitable.
there is also a huge difference between myopia and insistence upon fact based arguments…
and as for sounding like a truther.. aren’t those the people who believe that Obama was born in Africa? Where’s the truth in that?
i refuse to let right wing extremist groups steal words like truth, honor, patriotism, justice.. etc to pervert them into something politically expedient.
My country.. love it or leave it. I loved it enough to stay and to try to help it live up to it’s ideals.
In that i suspect i really do speak for the majority… even if we may not always agree on the details.

sam-cParticipantI have a simple question, related to the topic title: “Elections are just around the corner”-
(sorry I haven’t read through the debate)- but thought someone here would know.
We got out mail-in ballots today, but the voters pamphlets haven’t shown up yet. usually the pamphlets come first. did we misplace our pamphlet or is it still forthcoming? thanks!
July 30, 2010 at 8:06 am #699306
JoBParticipantJuly 30, 2010 at 2:17 pm #699307
charlabobParticipantPamphlets are sent out third class mail to houses, not to individual voters. Ballots are sent out first class to individual voters.
We didn’t get pamphlet yet either — maybe today.
I have to say, I used to complain when they came early because, by the time I got the ballot I lost the pamphlet. :-)
If you want information right away, on the candidates specific to you, go to the elections site, and scroll down below Cheryl Huff’s picture. You can fill in your name and get the upper level info for candidates on your ballot. Click on the candidate name to see the voter information for that person.

Finally, WSB has thorough coverage of elections and where to find all election-related information. https://westseattleblog.com/2010/07/2010-primary-election-ballots-arriving-candidates-talking

WSBKeymasterWatch for a story later tonight from a candidates’ forum focusing on both hot races. We just arrived at the location on Vashon and about to head in – all four are supposed to be here from each of the open-seat races, State House 2 and King County Council 8.

sam-cParticipantgot our pamphlet Friday too. Thanks for the update!
August 2, 2010 at 8:24 am #699312
HMC RichParticipantJoB, I think you meant “Birther”. Truthers believe 9/11 was an inside job. You know, Van Jones, former President Obama Czar who stepped down was one of those guys (and a self avowed communist). (Which he is free to be!!!)
OK, name calling. Me, too far? Just from this string.
teabagger, bat sh&t, complete nut, demons, (although charlabob’s “slander to demons” was hilarious.
More: Shut the flip up, twisted logic, loons of the far right echo chamber, hate and anger, compared to Hinckley and McVeigh, republican greed fest, right wing extremist.
And my favorite, Post 32 in an exercise in tolerance.
I give JanS credit about the name calling. She called both sides out. And former VP Gore was cleared. Inference of massage therapists elsewhere not intended. Please Jan, accept my apology.
May I point out I answered your derogatory written attacks of the right with crude humor. You didn’t like it. I ask that some of you may want to rethink your choice of remarks. As I have said before, point a finger at me and three point back at you.
Anyway, I did find it interesting to get my ballot before my voters pamphlet.
I enjoyed the WSB coverage of the political debates on Vashon. Keep it coming.
August 2, 2010 at 6:54 pm #699313
JoBParticipantHMCRich..
i have nothing in common with truthers.
i do not believe 911 was an inside job.
however, that doesn’t mean i believe that the Bush/Cheney administration took the threat of Al Queda seriously enough before… or after… 9/11… as evidenced by their foreign policy.
i think you see name calling everywhere you look … except in the rhetoric streaming out of FOX news and your hero Glen Beck… where it is rampant… and repeated regularly just in case you missed it the first time.
Lies do not become truth when repeated regularly.. but you would never know it listening to them natter on.
LOL.. you may see the phrase “republican greed fest” as name calling… i see it as an obvious reflection of economic and political reality. I could.. and have.. offered plenty of evidence to back that one up…
if you look up the definition of twisted you will find that when applied to logic it accurately describes an argument that does not logically follow from it’s premise…
and i am sorry, but right wing extremists accurately labels a sector of the republican party…
i can see why it’s easier to label that name calling than deal with the evidence…
but that doens’t make accurate description name calling.
Saying that someone is wrong is not the same thing as calling them names… nor is refuting charges with evidence.
Republicans are not the underdogs here.. victims of liberal name calling… all you have to do is turn on FOX news at any time of the day or night to verify who is propagating that rumor while indulging in some pretty heavy name calling and slander of their own.
The closest us libs get to that is Jon Stewart who lets politicians and newscasters alike play hoof in mouth on a nightly basis …
I confess.. i have had to give him up lately even if it is funny:(
it’s just too painful to be reminded how many people take what should be a colossal joke so seriously.

c@lbobMemberRe: HMCRich
To paraphrase the Bard:
The gentleman doth protest too much, me thinks.
It must be tough to be so sensitive, so fragile, to be so able to take offense so easily.
Or, maybe its just plain, everyday bull pucky.
