There’s still some signs out there on city land..like on the west side of Admiral going down to the bridge to downtown…

This is SUCH a huge pet peeve of mine. Weeks or months after an election, heading down any major street and seeing dozens of signs left in medians and other public areas. (I don’t really care if a person leaves them on their own property – it’s the public areas that irk me.)

I’ve long held that after any election, for every 5 signs left scattered about, the candidate or proposal or whatever should lose a vote. They’d be encouraging their supporters to clean up their damned trash post-haste, as it could potentially change a close race.

Granted, this is NOT a serious suggestion as there are a multitude of reasons why it’s not realistic (or legal…) although it might be realistic to implement some sort of fine structure where the campaign is charged for them.

It’s always fun to daydream about what I’d do if I were Queen of the World. Maybe someday. :)

My neighbor took down his Obama sign the morning of the election — he thought everyone would have decidedby then. (We discussed it because I wondered if something had happened to change his mind.) We took ours down that night, at 8:01 — I wanted to be on Cap Hill, marching and cheering, but…the body didn’t cooperate.

Instead I went to Lady Liberty but no one else was there. LL and I had a nice chat and I drove home, honking A girl could dream — softly. :-)

I agree old battered signs are annoying. OTOH, I like the fact that I still see “Bush-Cheney in 2000” bumper stickers from time to time. It reminds me that they’re still out there and it’s not time to relax.

AND I have a couple of “Don’t blame me I’m from Massachusetts” left over from the 1972 McGovern campaign. For you kids, who didn’t learn this in ancient history, Massachusetts was the only state that went for McGovern over Nixon in 1972. We moved there in ’73. Not entirely unrelated. :-)
