Would anyone be able to tell me where the Drivers License drivers test does the parallel parking part of the test?

Helping my daughter get ready for the driving test.

I’ve never heard of a specific place for the driving test, let alone parallel parking, I would get your daughter use to parallel parking just about anywhere that allows parallel parking. The more practice she has the better!

    Good luck!

Frequently uphill on Trenton next to the ball field up from the Post Office. Also on 29th SW between Trenton and Henderson.

    Good luck!

I’d say just practice until she’s confident. Maybe I just had good teachers, but I’ve never found parallel parking to be all that difficult, unless I’m trying to squeeze into a space that’s too small. When I see people struggling, it’s usually because they didn’t get close enough to the car in front (side-to-side), or they started backing up too soon (didn’t pull forward enough.)

Flowerpetal is correct! I took my daughter driving around the Westwood Village neighborhood so that she’d be familiar with the roads before going for her license. We turned onto 29th off Trenton and practiced parallel parking behind a beat-up old van. The next day when she took the test, the guy from the DMV had her park behind that very same beat-up van! Such a funny coincidence! She passed!!

Now we know how the van got that way!

I actually did choose the van precisely because she couldn’t do anymore damage to it if she inadvertently hit it…I imagine the guy from DMV thought the same way.

This is interesting to me, since when I was learning to drive in NYC, we had to avoid the areas where the road tests were given because our driving permits were not valid there – no unfair advantage in getting to know the route ahead of time. That was in the early 1980s, so things may have changed, of course.

Parallel parking was also quite feared on the test – if you hit the curb at all, instant fail. If you parked more than 12″ from the curb, instant fail. No pressure though. :)

They wont have her squeezing between two cars, just have her park behind a car. She will have to park up hill to be sure she points the tires in the correct direction.
