JanSParticipanthey…I have no problem with pet owners who respect the law…what I have a problem with are people who do not respect other people’s opinions on public forums, if those people don’t agree with you on whatever subject. Who died and made you the only right one?
I never said I represent most people on WSB…but I haven’t seen a positive post by you on these forums yet. I suggest you clean your own house before tackling anyone else’s..
Thanks…and have a great rest of the weekend…
now..no more personal stuff..let’s get back to the OP ( which I most certainly disagree with, by the way)

BubbaMember“what I have a problem with are people who do not respect other people’s opinions on public forums, if those people don’t agree with you on whatever subject.”
you don’t have a problem with it you just tell them to pack-up and leave.
“but I haven’t seen a positive post by you on these forums yet”
You’ve seen many positive posts by me and actually complimented and agreed with some. It’s just that Bubba deals with the irrational.

JanSParticipantwhy don’t you just be honest and post under just one name…afraid to? I am who I am…not hiding anything. How about you? Seems a little dishonest to me. Now…for the sake of not having things removed, if you have anything personal to say to me, e-mail me.
This thread should continue on topic, not a disagreement about personalities. See ya !

WSBKeymasterI do want to clarify a rule here, since we were just flagged on what Bubba said.
While we do not currently have a rule that says you can’t have more than one log-in, it is against our rules to pretend to be more than one person in the same discussion (same with home page comments). Yes, we know, given the way IP addresses work, it’s not always possible to catch that, or to assess it accurately, but you’d be surprised how flagrantly obvious it often is.
Without further disclosing anything that is known only to us as administrators, I will say for those wondering, it does not appear that any other user ID linked to Bubba has participated in this discussion.

TammiWSMemberI wish I’d had my camera with me yesterday morning at Lincoln Park, by the pool.
Two women with dogs, one with her dog unleashed (a wolf-like looking dog) – dog was wandering up and down the path, into the grass, she standing there with the leash in hand.
THEN the dog proceeds to crap, twice, and she walks up, pets the dog and walks away, with her still unleased dog.
Lovely.

bluebirdMemberWhy didn’t you say anything?
August 16, 2009 at 7:06 pm #674549
TammiWSMemberHonestly, I didnt want to get into it with her and her friend and their two big dogs.
Call me chicken I suppose.
I thought about it afterwards and probably would have said something had I not been alone.
August 16, 2009 at 7:26 pm #674550
bluebirdMemberI understand. I do wonder why we are all so timid in this situation. Another thread, people were offended by cigar smoke at an outdoor event in LP. No one said anything, just grumbled on here. And now a no smoking proposal in public parks. It would probably be as effective as the leash law.
Are we just that afraid of someone not liking us? Of thinking we’re the the jerk? Why do we care what rude people think or say to us?
August 16, 2009 at 8:03 pm #674551
JanSParticipantI’m the person who said something about cigar smoke. I was sitting in a low chair watching an outdoor play. The smoker was at least 10 feet behind me with people in between me and him. I have arthritis, have had 2 hip replacements…it’s not easy to get up out of that kind of chair quickly, disrupt the play, run through the crowd, etc., or yell at him from afar. If I had been standing next to the guy I would have said something. I don’t give a damn if it’s legal to smoke there. Why do we absolve these people of any wrongdoing? Why can’t they be aware of where they are , who they’re around, their surroundings, etc. If you smoke cigars, you know it offends people, especially in a crowd like that. And it was right after our terrific heat spell. It’s dry out there..an ash could fall on dry grass, etc. But common sense went out the window, I suppose.
So..sorry I didn’t complain to him…but under the circumstances it wasn’t possible :)
August 16, 2009 at 8:11 pm #674552
TammiWSMemberI dont really care if they like me or think I’m rude. They are being rude.
I just dont trust that people wont freak out and DO something crazy. Odds are the person would just call me a name – who cares – I’m more concerned she’d send the dog after me.
I’m also pretty non-confrontational by nature so its outside my comfort zone to call people out. Maybe next time – as there always is a next time at LP. :)

JiggersMemberThis thread has gone to the dogs..Ugggh! Time to go out and enjoy the day instead of sittng like you guys here acting like childish fools.
August 16, 2009 at 8:13 pm #674554
bluebirdMemberJanS, I agree with you. Was being sincere. I have difficulty confronting people even when it is possible on my part. Sounds like other people do too, and I don’t understand why WE are apprehensive when it is the other persons wrongdoing in question.
Edit: safety concerns aside

JimmyGMemberI find nothing wrong with posting the photos of people breaking the law out in a public place.
When you catch me with my dogs off leash in public I encourage you to post my pic on the ‘net.
I always have my camera with me and won’t hesitate to snap a photo of a violator. Just as I don’t hesitate to tell people to pick up their dog crap when they try to walk away.
But I don’t live my life in fear either.

KevinParticipantAlkifan,
.
I think your dog owner wall of shame is a great idea, whether you post the pictures or not.
.
The police and animal control folks are spread way too thin to be effective – so the idea of community policing using a camera as a deterrent is a great idea.
.
Once a few mugs appear on a web site, the word will likely get out, and many folks may think twice (certainly look both ways) before allowing their pet to make a mess on public property or let it run wild on the beach.
.
The violators have no way of knowing who might be the wall of shame photographer(s), so just the mere presence of cameras may influence at least a few folks to tow the line.
.
And for those who may think this is mean, just look at what the folks at Perverted Justice do in their war on child molesters. They have been doing it for years, WITH the cooperation of law enforcement. http://www.perverted-justice.com/
.
The law is quite clear that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place, so if you are breaking the law and get your picture taken or posted on a web site, then you should have thought about that possibility beforehand.
.
Alkifan, please let us know the web address of your new site once you have it up.

mousewhispererMemberOkay. This is not that complicated on one level. Dogs are supposed to be on leashes in public, especially in heavily populated parks. I keep my dog a leash for his own protection and the protection of other because he is psycho.
Poop scooping. Just do it.
A well behaved dog having fun chasing a ball and not pooping everywhere? What’s the prob? I let my other dog offleash in Lincoln Park because she is obsessed with her tennis ball. She is totally focused on it. And very sweet natured. But because we live in a panopticon we must know that we are always being observed. Either by madwomen trolling the shores with camera phones, or the imaginary “Big Brother”… but now we’re all big brother. It’s confusing and sad.

WesCAddleMemberTo whomever keeps throwing their dog crap bag in my yard…might I suggest this:

JoBParticipantI don’t know how i feel about the Wall of Shame…
but i do know that if there were more responsible dog owners, there would be no need for a hall of shame.
today.. at what appeared to be low tide. .the most vulnerable time for shoreline marine life.. i counted 5 of leash dogs on Alki beach as i drove past. that didn’t include those on the beach but leashed.
There were about 3 times as many leashed dogs on the path as unleashed dogs on the beach.. but about a third of the dog owners on Alki this morning while i drove past were breaking at least one law.. no dogs on the beach… roughly a quarter broke at least two laws.. no dogs on the beach and no leash.
I didn’t look to see who was scooping poop.
This is not just a few random irresponsible dog owners who are choosing to disobey animal control laws…
Personally i have reached a point where i wouldn’t mind seeing the pictures posted on alki telephone polls with a caption pointing out that the activity was illegaL.
does that make me mean? i don’t know.. but it sure does make me tired of picking up the tab in lost safety, accessibility and increased costs for those who think the law just doesn’t apply to them.
August 18, 2009 at 7:47 pm #674562
JoBParticipantmousewhisperer…
the prob? it’s illegal.
the prob? while your dog is cavorting in the meadow chasing their ball, someone else has to avoid the area to make that activity possible for you and your dog.
it’s not anyone else’s job to make illegal activity.. or anything else for that matter… ok for you.
August 18, 2009 at 8:57 pm #674563
maplesyrupParticipantBeyond that most people can’t control where an unleashed dog decides to relieve itself.
Just go to Westcrest if you need an off leash area. It’s really not all that scary, I swear.
August 18, 2009 at 9:03 pm #674564
KBearParticipant“the prob? while your dog is cavorting in the meadow chasing their ball, someone else has to avoid the area to make that activity possible for you and your dog.”
Exactly. My law-abiding dog should not have to avoid the park because somebody else thinks his dog is better than the leash law.
If you gotta run off leash, use your own yard or go to the dog park.
August 19, 2009 at 2:06 am #674565
aunteesocialParticipantI see a photo-shoot coming on!
Why do I even bother leashing my dogs at Lincoln (which actually I don’t go to because of off leash dogs, thanks Mouse… and a host of far more lethal offenders). Why do I bother keeping them off the beach? Why do I pick up after them? Why can’t I position myself above the law? Obligation to do the right thing syndrome I guess.
What’s it like just to do what you want when you want?? If you never get caught, or put on a wall-of-shame, or sent to the emergency vet or ER because of another off leash offender, well it must be okay then.. Vive la Land of Entitlement!
August 19, 2009 at 2:12 am #674566
IrukandjiParticipantNO so complicated, mouse. Put that fabulous dog in the back of your car and drive it to the off leash dog park. Put your spare change toward S.O.D.A. and help create more off-leash dog parks. If you care to share public space with general rules for the public, have the courtesy to follow the rules. You and your dog will be well adored for not being just another pair of buns creating one more above-the-law arse.
