JenVMemberoh, I guess you’re right on that one. I was focused on the “off leash” argument again. D’oh!
Retracted fail.

TracyMemberAnd there will be lots more pictures if this happens:

(King County may cut Animal Control….. grrrrrrrreat.)
August 13, 2009 at 8:41 pm #674519
WSBKeymasterSeattle Animal Shelter responds inside city limits. King County Animal Services is for unincorporated areas and “contracting cities.” Seattle of course has its own budget challenges but not nearly as bad as the county.

JoBParticipantyou guys must have better eyes than i.. i could see a retractable leash in the owner’s hand and she was clearly picking up.. which is cool.. but i didn’t see the leash itself attached to the dog.. and.. she is clearly on the beach :(
August 13, 2009 at 10:10 pm #674521
B-squaredParticipantShe is picking something up with a bare hand. not likely doggie-deposit. probably a rock. Dog on the beach – shame on her! I have no trouble with the shame aspect. she is making a decision that is selfish and against the law. No consideration or respect. bonus that the pic isn’t flattering.

JiggersMemberIf they close parks, they can use them for Tent Cities.
August 13, 2009 at 11:51 pm #674523
wilsonParticipantDo any of you remember when stores would “post” or display the (NSF) returned checks -right there by the check out or cash register?? I guess one of two things happened…pay the store owner and get that check off the bulletin board (person who felt shame or embarassment) or…never go back to that store again- sooooooooooo….problem solved
This “wall of shame” might encourage or “shame” to put the leash on, or they won’t go back to THAT park :)

vincentMemberI love the ridiculous assumption of this thread that the persons in the photos will ever know of it, much less care.
August 14, 2009 at 9:14 am #674525
grrParticipantthis ‘blog’ (or witch hunt..whatever you prefer) is THE biggest ‘GET A LIFE’ I have ever seen. Pathetically stunning.
August 14, 2009 at 9:17 am #674526
grrParticipant..and..Alki..just curious..will you be wandering the streets taking photos of cats roaming free…defecating on public property, destroying flower beds, or anything else? If a CAT is seen wandering on Alki Beach..what will you do? Ever try to remove cat urine?
August 14, 2009 at 5:46 pm #674527
mrhinehMemberHow about we chase down the losers who dump their fast food wrappers, bags and drink cups in parking lots after eating? That raises the hair on my neck. Use a friggin garbage can, lazy butts.
August 14, 2009 at 6:24 pm #674528
JanSParticipantAlkifan…so now that you’ve outed this woman…what now? If she contacts you and responds, and no longer walks on the beach, will you remove the picture, or stamp a big red RESOLVED across it so it’s unrecognizable? Have you thought about this? These pictures stay on the internet forever and a day..you must have a follow-up plan…right?
August 14, 2009 at 8:12 pm #674529
hollyplaceParticipantI like the idea of putting people who litter and discard cigarette butts on the ground on the site too!
August 14, 2009 at 8:37 pm #674530
JoBParticipantalki-fan..
i have to agree with jan on this one…
if you are posting a wall of shame there has to be a mechanism for redemption or there would be no incentive to change your behavior once caught..
in for a penny.. in for a pound:(
August 14, 2009 at 9:41 pm #674531
AlkifanParticipantJan, these are great ideas. I don’t know how the person would verify that it was them in the picture, etc… but if there was a way, I think it would be a nice resolution.
August 15, 2009 at 2:44 am #674532
aunteesocialParticipantIf you must take photos without permission of citizens that are knowing or unknowingly disobeying the law, I would suggest just sending the photos to the proper “authorities” (hate that word).
Purposefully trying to humiliate them on a public website is not so cool. I think it’s negative energy being put forth and doesn’t really solve the problem. I don’t think anyone would want their photo on a wall of shame for doing something (perhaps accidentally) illegal, or what someone may find offensive. Does anyone you know of talk on a cell phone while driving? It’s not an act that can get you pulled over, but it can be terribly dangerous. Should people photo the litterbugs, the jaywalkers, the stop sign runners? All of those things are foolish/dangerous/illegal.
I’m so against off leash dogs at public parks(!), I’ll not bore anyone with that.. I’ve already blogged enough about it and I’ve used the form to report on Seattle Animal Control’s website. But I just don’t see this as being very constructive. I find it rather mean-spirited. Punishment Paparazzi.
This thought has crossed my mind, [cue harp and wavy picture] but I imagined it more of asking the offender if I could take their picture for my “Land of Entitlement” project. And my imagination led me to what would likely be a punch in the face. :) It was fun to think of, but I would never do it (hate emergency rooms).
At the very least if you feel the need to use the humiliation card, black box or blur the face of the person. Or for that matter the poor dog’s face (not their fault).
I vote uncool.
August 15, 2009 at 2:49 am #674533
jMemberI’ve been following this thread since the beginning and I couldn’t agree more with aunteesocial. Totally uncool.
August 15, 2009 at 8:17 am #674534
AlkifanParticipantaunteesocial, you have a way with words wow.
How about this… if nobody sends any more pictures over this weekend, the “wall of shame” will be done, forgotten, eliminated.
I personally have very strong feelings about Alki Beach, and every other park for that matter. A park isn’t a “park” when there is dog waste all over the place. Dog waste can cause serious health risks to anyone (children) who come into contact with it.
Thre are also environmental risks when it comes into contact with the Puget Sound.
Very recently I thought it would be nice to check out the park near Bevridge Place (spelling?) and when I brought my children there, we quickly realized that there was dog feces everywhere in that small grass area and had to leave immediately. How ABSOLUTELY frustrating!!!!!! The city put $$ into this, we were excited to check it out, and we’ll never go back. I guess it is a dog park now. Sorry tax paying citizens.
I am not a mean spirited person. I am very dedicated to the environment, and also to the great community that we have here in West Seattle.
There will always be ‘haters’ on these forums, no matter what is posted, some people get off on trying to aggravate others. I have seen very strong feedback on the site however. There are a lot of people who believe that ‘something’ is being done, but they don’t want people on this Forum to know who they are.
I personally don’t see any harm in this site. People who are breaking the law don’t give a damn. They know they won’t be fined the posted $500, and they don’t give a $*%& about anyone who is watching, or anyone who will be using the exact same sand that their dog did their business on.
August 15, 2009 at 2:12 pm #674535
TrisketParticipantHey Alkifan… enough already. WE GET IT. You don’t like dog feces. But guess what, public parks also have pigeon poop , duck dump and goose goo, not to mention squirrel squirt, raccoon raunch and worm waste all equally unhealthy by your standards.
I think your “Dog Owner Wall of Shame” website is mean spirited, indicative of issues you have greater than individuals breaking the law. However, perhaps “Get mad and get even” is the example you want to set for your children.
August 15, 2009 at 3:22 pm #674536
bluebirdMember“There are a lot of people who believe that ‘something’ is being done, but they don’t want people on this Forum to know who they are.”
But it’s perfectly ok to post identifying pictures of others online, without their knowledge?
Could you be any more passive aggressive.
And someone needs some serious help with their copromania.
August 15, 2009 at 7:45 pm #674537
JiggersMemberI think the real issue that lonelycrow was trying to bring up is not dog crap but how dangerous and violent dogs are when their owners don’t have them leashed. They let them stroll way in front of them approaching other people who they don’t know and some poor person minding his own business is unsuspectingly attacked. There have been real close incidents I have seen at Lincoln Park, but luckily no real bodily injury that could cost the dog owner, and especially the state tens of thousands of dollars in court and settlement fees. Yes, people don’t obide by the law and swift hard action should be taken once a case has been represented. Who will be made an example of in this regards, it could be you if you think its fun to let your pets run around freely.
August 15, 2009 at 9:22 pm #674538
BubbaMember“…but how dangerous and violent dogs are when their owners don’t have them leashed. “
what a load. Your story of being accosted in LP is more of a testament to the ability of dogs to judge the character of strangers then inherent violence.
But I do love your willingness to join the WS nanny brigade when it suits.
August 15, 2009 at 9:44 pm #674539
JanSParticipantBubba…you don’t seem to like most of us on here, or our opinions…perhaps there’s another local blog that would be more suitable for you?
August 15, 2009 at 10:07 pm #674540
PinkFeathersMemberGRR – I can’t agree with you more! I think there was a study not long ago that said there were more dogs than kids per capita
with that – What about the Cigarette butts that people throw out on the street? Why not take pictures of that and give them to the owner of the establishments. Or the soccer mom’s that drive too fast and talk on their cell phones with children in the car? Child endangerment?
August 15, 2009 at 10:11 pm #674541
BubbaMemberJan, I’m under the impression that I like most people on this blog and that there is a very vocal minority that I find irrational about a subject so I let Bubba speak out on that subject.
What makes you think that you represent most people on WSB?
My take would be that most people in WS and on the blog are responsible pet owners why don’t you like us? I could suggest that there’s a local blog that would suit this minority group of nannies better, but that really isn’t the way I operate. I really don’t work the passive aggressive thing that has been illustrated so well in this thread and which you just took to the highest order with your post.
