AlkifanParticipantPlease e-mail pictures you would like posted to the new Dog Owner Wall of Shame to alkifan@gmail.com.
Please make sure that you get a clear picture of the Owner’s face and remember to submit details of why they should be posted to this public website.
The purpose of this site is to document owners who refuse to obey the leash law, and the Seattle Parks law about dogs.
Maybe this will help deter the ongoing dog owner negligence?

vincentMemberCan I submit pictures of myself? if that is a violation of the rules, can I find out when you will be at the park so I can unleash my dog for a picture in front of you.
pro tip, have bacon in your pockets so your ready.
August 12, 2009 at 12:46 am #674494
AlkifanParticipantGo ahead and submit a picture of yourself Vincent and I’ll meet you at the park tomorrow whenever you want.

theeParticipantGreat idea… right up there with uh…. wait… I’ll think of something.

mrhinehMemberI would like to caution people on being over zealous and creating confrontations. This reeks of a problem they had in Portland a few years back and things got very ugly.
Good luck with the mission.

JenVMemberand I would like to caution people on keeping bacon in their pockets. that is SURE to end in trouble, as crazy as WS is about their bacon.

Mayor QuimbyMemberThis is totally funny humor and not a problem, I repeat…not a problem.
Even though off-leash dog owners pretty much have their heads up their dog’s @$$, I usually just shake my head and say to myself “What kind of message would I send off if I told that guy/gal not to let his/her dog piss in the Puget Sound?”
I don’t know if it warrants a website and an underground photography army, but I like it. Did I miss the link for the site? Be sure and give updates to any confrontation that happens and that is also when good photos of someone looking pissed off into the camera come to life!!!

B-squaredParticipantGreat idea! Thanks for doing this. Will be taking camera down to Lincoln park from now on. and keep the calls, emails and letters to animal control coming. this is a decent revenue-generating opportunity that they shouldn’t pass up.

swimcatMemberI think this is hilarious- I’ll be checking the website frequently and even know someone who will probably end up with her picture on it. I just hope no one goes crazy on you for posting their pictures- serves them right, but not you, alkifan.

anonymeParticipantGreat idea, Alkifan. I’ve considered doing this at my job. I manage a formal public garden, and it’s amazing how many people think they can just let their dogs off leash to tear up the planting areas. Not only that, they seem to think that it’s the gardener’s responsibility to clean up after their dog. One guy let his dog crap in the middle of the walkway right in front of me. When I asked him to pick it up, he laughed in my face and walked away. I may start taking photos and posting them in the kiosk near the garden entry. Or, I’ll just start sending them to you! Thanks.

Bikefor1MemberThere is a newspaper that publishes mug shots and it’s perfectly legal. Not only legal but successful. It is branching out to other cities.
Why not a dog owner Wall of Shame? Especially since it will include a photo of the crime being committed.
What happened in Portland, exactly?
August 13, 2009 at 8:21 am #674504
theeParticipantStill no scofflaws posted on the site…. dang! C’mon, you’ve all been deputized. Get busy!
August 13, 2009 at 2:56 pm #674505
sam-cParticipantIn Portland, wasn’t there a big forested area that people let their dogs run off leash, similar to Lincoln Park or Schmitz Park, and someone started leaving poisoned sausage all over the place (where dogs running off leash would find it). Believe it was so bad that dogs died from the poison.

Cali101MemberI think it is great you are so passionate about something. And, I understand the threat of dogs off leash and irresponsible dog owners. However, I am wondering if there are not more serious crimes you might devote your energies to? I guess if you feel this is your mission, go right ahead, but really, I think people are just going to keep doing what they are doing. If they are out in public doing it, I don’t see why reiterating it on a public blog would really make a difference.
August 13, 2009 at 3:51 pm #674508
ricoMemberJeez Cali101, so nice of you to authorize someone to spend their time how they choose. Glad their use of time met your approval, NOT.
Why would you criticize someone for how they spend their time, unless you are criticizing yourself for taking the time to write useless internet posts – wait that is me, get back to work slacker.
August 13, 2009 at 4:24 pm #674509
Cali101MemberPoint taken Rico. Sorry about the wording in that previous message, and apologizing in advance to AlkiFan. I just feel sad that the spirit of the blog’s intent seems to be adversarial/confrontational. Hope it makes a difference, but I think it might just be more amusing for readers and feed negativity.

flowerpetalMemberI doubt that a wall of shame will change the practice one iota. I guess what I find uncomfortable is the title. Shame is a powerful emotion and one that people spend money with therapists to overcome. Not that the pictures themselves are going to send someone into therapy. Its more the practice of shaming someone that is icky.
You will never catch me telling someone “shame on you.”
August 13, 2009 at 6:24 pm #674511
Cali101MemberVery nicely put, flowerpetal.

AlkifanParticipantAugust 13, 2009 at 7:43 pm #674514
JenVMemberyou might want to actually look at that photo, Alkifan. That dog is clearly on a leash.
FAIL.
August 13, 2009 at 7:44 pm #674515
JiggersMemberIt has to be off its leash. This doesn’t count. And picking up poop is not what we are after.
August 13, 2009 at 7:46 pm #674516
beachdrivegirlParticipantIm neutral. This isnt necessarily a pass (the dogs on a leash) but it defin. is not a fail! the dog is on the beach.
