Reading sam-c’s comment reminded me of a segment of Louie CK’s series. In it, he is sleeping soundly in bed. Then you hear the sounds of a garbage truck outside and trash cans banging. Then you see a number of workers deliberately slamming garbage cans against the truck the, street, anywhere to make noise with only a minimal attempt to place trash in the dumpster. Eventually they jump through the window into Louie’s bedroom, throwing trash cans, jumping up and down on his bed as get groggily stumbles out of the room. Sometimes we perceive things in the most outrageous manner.

This reminds me about a PSA I’ve been meaning to write:

I have two large dogs (a black lab and a white/tan pit) and they like to play in our fenced yard in North Delridge on 25th. Whenever people walk by with dogs, the lab barks like an idiot and my pitbull tries to get him to be quiet by chasing him around as she’s very quiet herself and is, I believe, embarrassed by him when he barks. (Basically she’s saying “Shut up you’re embarrassing me in front of potential friends!”) It results in them “fighting” (rolling each other around in the dirt and snarling) and horrified dog walkers rush by as I try to herd them into the house.

They bark sometimes because it’s their job when they are in the house and someone opens the gate. But most of the time they are just acting like fools because they cannot agree on how best to greet fellow dogs as they walk by. But, a certain amount of that can’t be avoided because they are required (by law I believe) a certain amount of hours of daylight every day and they need to stretch their legs. If they don’t, they destroy my pillows during the night and chew on anything that isn’t nailed down. And some things that ARE nailed down. So you can see my dilemma. I apologize if they scare you or your dogs… or your children.

So if you walk your dog in North Delridge on 25th – I am so sorry on behalf of these two jackasses. They don’t mean you any harm and when they fight (even though it looks loud and heinous) they aren’t hurting each other. I swear they are sweet, lovely little angels who are just socially awkward and prone to bickering.

Also their names are “Cash” and “Penny” – if you try addressing them it might confuse them enough to snap them out of it while I’m prying my butt off the couch to come outside and wrangle them.

Haha Cait, sounds like my friends’ two dogs–a Golden and a Rottweiler. The Golden is the alpha, the Rottie wants to be but she’s kind of a princess and can’t figure out how to do it. The Golden gets the funniest look on his face when she tries; I’d describe it as “My little sister is SUCH a brat.”

I don’t mind barking dogs, as long as they aren’t chasing me down the street when I’m running.

Yeah our lab was an only-dog for many years and the pit came in thinking she was the alpha. They are still working that out hahaha!
