The Velvet BulldogParticipantI made a magnanimous gesture of offering to grow some flowers for my friend’s wedding next July. We’re doing mainly white with a smattering of blue and yellow and I thought having white lilies would be great–plus they’re likely to in bloom! Turns out, they’re freaking expensive, so I’m wondering if anyone has any they’re dividing out of their garden they’d be willing to give away or sell for cheap? I’ll come get them. Thanks! And remind me to stop and take a breath before I get all generous in the future…

GenHillOneParticipantIf you end up needing to widen your search, might post something on freecycle too! Good luck and the karma WILL come back to you :)

I don’t have lilies to share, but I DO have a small white buddleia that just refuses to go away. It got chopped out in early spring and STILL put out a few pannicles from the remaining stock. Pretty sure that if you amend it well, it will give more blossoms all through late spring and summer. If you want it, it is yours. Just let me know.

KatherineLParticipantVBD, you might want to think twice before starting buddleia in your yard. It’s an invasive weed. See kingcounty.gov/environment/animalsAndPlants/noxious-
weeds/weed-identification/butterfly-bush.aspx
As GHO mentioned, it’s hard to get rid of once you have it.

jwwsParticipantVBD,
If you’re thinking of white oriental lilies (Casablanca and others) most don’t bloom until late July/early August, so if it’s an early July wedding you may not have the blooms by then. Have you looked at bulk buying at sites like http://www.lilypadbulbs.com/? If you know anyone with a nursery license they may be able to get bulbs wholesale for you….

The Velvet BulldogParticipantKL–I know, I’m considering keeping it in a pot in order to just get a few panicles. Thanks jwws–wasn’t aware of that site!

jwwsParticipantVBD,
Have purchased lilies from Lily Pad numerous times for ourselves and clients, the bulbs are always of high quality and if you order early they are usually very large and produce fantastic blooms first year. Good luck on your hunt!
