Day Camp Counselor
FUNCTION OF POSITION
Responsible for supervising activities of Day Campers assigned to counselor. Will plan and lead activities as assigned and assist other counselors with their programs.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Responsible to the Education Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
• An understanding and acceptance of the Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, and practices.
• Must be able to deal with the public in an understanding and diplomatic manner.
• A current First Aid and CPR card.
• Ability to provide leadership, to make reliable decisions when necessary and to work as a team player.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with other staff and to the general public.
• Must Possess a valid drivers licenseSUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Person shall supervise day camp participants as assigned, and shall not leave his/her area except when relieved by another person.
• Person shall assist in organization of and lead activities as assigned.
• Responsible for group on outings and field trips
• Oversee participants in gym and game room and see that activities are conducted in a safe manner.
• When necessary record statistics of day camp programs.
• Drive minivan and/or 14-passenger bus.Requirements
• Ability to work with children.
• Ability to play facilitate and create a variety of games.
• Ability to stop disagreements and keep disagreements from happening.
• Ability to keep calm in demanding situations.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
• Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead.
• Ability to operate telephone.
• Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to access and produce information from a computer
• Ability to understand written information.Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. A qualified person with a disability may request a modification or adjustment to the job or work environment in order to meet the physical requirements of the position. The Salvation Army will attempt to satisfy requests as long as the accommodation needed is reasonable and no undue hardship would result.
