hellomaryloulouParticipantMy daughter and I live in the 2700 block of 37th Avenue SW and we have experienced non-neighborly treatment by some resident who lives close to us. This resident has complained to whomever is in charge of “ticketing” cars that he or she finds offensive and we now have been forced to move away because of these frequent notes on our cars, or even tickets. One of the cars was in a front end collision and is in the process of being repaired, slowly and as the funds become available. We park it right in front of our residence.
We pay over $2200/month in rent and are astounded that the complainant hasn’t the courage to address this issue directly. There are two units in our residence. One is occupied by three professional adults. Ours is occupied by two professionals and a teen-aged boy who is in training in California. His car has received numerous complaints. Where are the cars supposed to go?
I am from Arizona and have never received this type of treatment at the hands of neighbors and enforcement agencies since I’ve lived there the past 45 years. Arizona is ten times more civilized that Seattle and I understand from my West Seattle acquaintances at the church that calling in complaints about neighbors cars is de rigueur here. Shame on you.I’m fleeing back to Arizona the end of May and will breath a sigh of relief. My housemate/daughter has already found a place in Magnolia with no on-street issues.

JoBParticipanti am so sorry. There are what we call NIMBYs everywhere.. Not in my back yard…
they fear being tarred with the brush of povertyMay 1, 2018 at 3:13 pm #915444
anonymeParticipantYou seem to think that being from Arizona makes you exempt from Seattle laws. You can’t leave junk cars on the street for indefinite periods of time – or any car, for that matter. There’s far too much of this behavior in West Seattle as it is. Our block is currently dealing with some bozos who are running an illegal mechanic’s shop and dealership, with 8 or 9 cars on the street at any given time, with revving engines and billowing clouds of carbon monoxide. It’s ridiculous.
No one has “forced” you to move; all you had to do was obey the law. Instead, you resort to name-calling and tantrums. If anyone is acting in a “non-neighborly” fashion – it’s you. Good-bye, good luck, and good riddance.

PangolinPieParticipantCould it be because they were parked more than 72 hours without being moved?

KBearParticipantIt’s not up to the city to provide free storage for your personal automobiles. If your rental doesn’t include off-street parking, you’ll need to abide by the city’s parking ordinances. It’s not unreasonable for other citizens to expect those laws to be enforced, or to prompt the authorities to enforce them.

JoBParticipantwhen we enforce the laws because we can without finding out if there are extenuating circumstances we are not being neighborly..

Michael WaldoParticipantThank you JoB

LynnParticipantIf there are relevant extenuating circumstances, the police will take them into account. I don’t believe that a lack of funds for repairs makes parking a non-operational vehicle on the street legal.

newnativeParticipantFWIW, I lived in Arizona for several years, we adopted a puppy who, after being boarded once, started to bark. We kept him indoors overnight so he only barked when left alone (which wasn’t often). It wasn’t until I had a baby that some mysterious neighbor started to complain about the dog barking. No one came to investigate and when we approached our neighbors, they all denied complaining. (btw, all of our neighbors had barking dogs). It didn’t stop the landlord from threatening to evict us.
Cowardly neighbors exist everywhere.May 5, 2018 at 6:50 am #915731
JoBParticipantnewnative..
if only it wasn’t true that cowardly neighbors exist everywhere
because i can is becoming our national motto
and we are paying a high price for itMay 5, 2018 at 10:52 pm #915795
aaParticipantSomehow this person has chosen to take this personally. Ms Arizona, it’s not about you. It’s a law and the people your neighbor chose to report to are called police. I imagine it is different in AZ, here in this ever growing urban area, where multiple unit building are going up with no parking creates very difficult street parking situations. I will definitely report a car that stays in the same place too long on my block. We simply have no room for your car that is awaiting repairs. It’s ok if you like Arizona better, life here is starting to suck for lots of reasons.
