sboneParticipanthooper1961, I like the way you’re thinking here. Should have been done long ago. My two cents: Term limits in congress. The dirty scoundrels think it’s for life and set themselves up for it.

JoBParticipanthoop..

waynsterParticipantThank you America for the votes that gave our President a second term…..The one thing I am so grateful when elections are over is no more adds we get our TV’s, radios and no more of them ugly (waste of money) yard signs up and down the roads lol……..The country has spoken whether you agree or not its time to focus on the mandates that face the country as a whole…don’t be afraid to voice your opinions on those elected delegates state or federal email tell them your concerns remember we the people elected them and yes we the people can vote them out….my biggest concern is getting spending under control in the election process billions spent on negative adds if we could focus that much energy and money on elections just think what we could do with it other wise……now its time to rebuild for the future come together and do what’s right for our great nation and this weekend say thank you to a vet for if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have elections like this…..THANK YOU….to those who have served and are serving….

brewParticipantNow the question is – Will the people hold the Pres accountable? They sure didn’t over the last four years. It saddens me to see how short sited a portion of the voters are.

okay.
but what about coupling those with limits on campaign donations and spending?
how about reducing the influence of lobbyists and big money in our government?
a lot of folks talk about government’s role in business. but what about business’s increasing role in government? time to decouple the two.
November 10, 2012 at 6:27 pm #776783
JanSParticipantI think I’d want to first outlaw lobbyists – no more golf trips, no more buying votes, no more favoritism to money. That might get Congress first to do the job we sent them for. We are their employers, and I know I’m damned sick and tired of the obstructionists that they’ve become. They are not serving our country no matter how much they think they are !

JanSParticipantHooper…it’s been a long haul, and I’ve been away from home for almost 7 weeks now, but things are on the mend, and I may make it home by Thanksgiving…I sure hope so ! Thanks for inquiring :)

kootchmanMemberSure redblack… we can’t even agree on lobbyists… unions are. My message is to Boehner… buck up! We can weather a 9 per cent unemployment ,,,, “they can’t. Give em what they want… repeal ALL the Bush tax cuts… everyone of them. Not just the ten per cent… everyone gets to throw into the pot. Repeal THEIR Bush tax cuts….not mine!
November 11, 2012 at 12:06 am #776786
hooper1961MemberBoehner has opened the door to eliminating some deductions that is a reasoned first step.
so now what do the Dem’s compromise on? raise the retirement age? stop the extension of unemployment benefits?
on the Rep’s side – acknowledge that pruning military spending has to be a part of a package.
Dem’s – eliminate/reduce welfare to all able bodied people?
anyway the point is that both sides need to compromise.

JoBParticipanthoop..
not the best move..
i might have negotiated
but since you make demands and my team awas the winning team…
i will give you
cut the cost of health care ..
and we do it my way:)
WooHoo! single payer here we come
i love the idea of a national sin tax on junk food & soda
can we add more for booze and cigarettes?
how about GMOs and high fructose corn syrup too
WooHoo! fianncial incentives to eat real food.
reduce excess military spending
with special emphasis on contract work
WooHoo! Goodbye Haliburton!
simplifiying the tax code and eliminating deductions…
from the top down… with childcare, medical expenses, job training and mortgage deductions the last to go…
WooHoo! an effective rate for millionaires that resembles mine!
I am guessing i am far more reasonable with your list than you would be with mine

basic health care with co pays is cost effective. private insurance for high cost drugs and procedures. in other words if you break a leg you can get it set, but if you get cancer and have not paid for insurance tough luck. the US spends 18% of its GDP on health care canada less than 10%. hybrid system!
sin tax on junk food, wow we agree on something! 5% national sin tax on junk food.
military spending, wow more agreement
simplifying the tax code makes sense. mortgage deduction is a huge cost to uncle sam. simply get rid of it first!
also we need to recognize people live longer than ever before thus raising the retirement age and tweaking down the growth rate in benefits is also needed.
JoB sorry to hear that you were out of town dealing with sadnesses of the realities of life.
JoB – I suspect I am more pragmatic than you think.

HMC RichParticipantBoehner has already conceded many points to the President in an email to the Prez. The problem is, Obama will take that then keep pushing his agenda. I can hope that some meaningful debt reduction comes about but I will be shocked if it happens.
If it was soooooo important, Mr. Reid and Mr. Obama would have already passed a true budget. So forgive me for being cynical but I am.
Regarding the pet license. Guilty of not paying on time. The notice (and fine) hit me on a bad day (possibly the election) and I have always been against taxing pets. Just me. I would tax bicycles in a split second if I could. Yes, private companies charge penalties but if you call they forgive them quite often whereas the greedy government generally does not.
I am still expecting my refund from the monorail debacle. Didn’t the city make a profit? Correct me if I am wrong. Fat chance I will see a refund. Maybe they should have used the extra to rebuild the seawall.
November 13, 2012 at 8:04 am #776794
JanSParticipantJohn Boehner will not compromise. He firmly believes that compromise means Obama doing what he says with no questions asked. Maybe you feel otherwise, but Boehner talks out both sides of his mouth. He wants to keep his job, pure and simple. In the end, they will obstruct again, same old story, our way or the highway. You consider that working with the president? I don’t. I predict it will be the same ol’, same ol’…voted right down party lines…
November 13, 2012 at 2:20 pm #776795
JoBParticipanthoop..
did you not notice that the country that you cited with lower medical costs than ours does NOT have basic health insurance with co-pays…
there are countries that do.. they have mandatory insurance for every citizen that has a regulated rate with a reasonable profit built with i think no co=pays.. and additional insurance available at regulated costs…
don’t tell me you are ready to actually regulate the health insurance industry?
and don’t think that i failed to notice that the mortgage deduction is the ONE in your crosshairs… that will raise the effective tax rate of those who hold jobs but will likely do little for the effective tax rate of the wealthy who will simply find a way to make their homes a business expense…
and no, it isn’t that difficult to do.

We do what we can to help one another.

JoBParticipantHMCRich..
John Boehner’s idea of compromise is conceding that the winner of the election should get what the loser proposed.
Admitted.. he will have a tough time selling anything less to the tea party fanatics you admire because they considered Romney’s position a compromise too far…
but there you go.
when anything left of far right looks like a compromise.. you paint a centerist President socialist…
and to be perfectly honest.. nobody’s happy.
the folks who elected this centrist as the best of two options are none too happy with the compromises he is willing to make just to get to the negotiating table.
we think compromising from a comprised position is not a strong bargaining position…
as evidenced by the health care bill we got out of the last great compromise which was essentially a Republicans bill ecycled.
I am not willing to accept another four years of the Democrats blaming the Republicans for doing nothing…
One wonders why you are willing to accept Republicans adding the social agenda America rejected in this election to every bill as the price of doing business?
November 13, 2012 at 5:21 pm #776798
hooper1961MemberObama did not win with any mandate at all. Yes he won. But the electorate also maintained republican control of the house!
In our state yes the D’s won but the voter’s also don’t trust the D’s on taxes!
