West Seattle is the best Seattle.

I am an employee at one of the few coffee shops that is still open in the area. We have many regular customers and see new faces everyday who say, “Thank you for being open!” even though I don’t own the business. These same people–and many others–are doing their very best to provide for the local business and our employees by showing up everyday and leaving very generous tips. Your good grace is not lost on this barista! Receiving $3, $5, $10, $20! tips is so sincerely appreciated. We are all sorry to not allow customers to come “work from home” at the cafe, but when we get through this, we will all be stronger and better than ever! For many of us employees, your selfless tipping is paying for our college tuition, childcare, food, medication and rent while all of our hours must be cut so we can provide for our wonderful boss and community.

Thank you, beautiful humans. I’ve been trying to put pictures of rainbows in windows like they do in Europe to remind us of Dolly Parton’s cheesy-but-choice words, “If you want the rainbow, you’ve got to put up with the rain,” something we know a little about here in Seattle.

beekery: nice of you to acknowledge! Personally, I have been purposefully hitting the one-off, independent coffee shops when I can, even though I have a stack of SBucks gift cards from my CC rewards. I know those baristas are also my neighbors but feel as a mega-conglomerate they are much more able to care for their employees longer, I mean hopefully. It’s the small, local, shops that have me worried for their future livelihood. Stay the course and Stay Well!
