JiggersMemberLooks like a Land Use Action sign has gone up in the the parking lot to make way for new high end condo’s at the end of the year. We knew this was coming, but eh.. were are we going to watch our NFL games in the future? Another sad story to a local business’ getting shoved out by rich developers….:(

skeeterParticipantWSB – can you run an article on this? I’d like details. My family has enjoyed Rocksport for years and would be sad to see it go.

sam-cParticipantskeeter: they’ve been running stories for years:
type “conner homes” into the search field
here is the most recent story:

DianeParticipantfunny, I visited another business last night in the Conner properties, and asked what they are planning to do when the building is demolished for new development; they seemed to be in denial that this will happen any time soon

skeeterParticipantThanks sam-c. What I was looking for is a story about what Rocksport is going to do. I’m hopeful they can move somewhere else?
July 1, 2011 at 9:23 pm #728150
sam-cParticipantoh right, that makes sense, sorry. hopefully the displaced stores / businesses can find new places within a proximity close enough to serve their loyal customers.

WSBKeymaster(A) This is not condos, it’s apartments. (B) Yes, we’ve been covering it for years. (C) Most of the businesses there are looking for new locations. Some have found them already (but aren’t discussing yet – when the move is not imminent, they don’t want to start focusing customers on a place they won’t be in for months). As Charlie Conner told us back in the spring when this all reactivated, construction is not likely to start until early next year – IF then. He had not even sought financing when we talked. We did report last week that the land-use permit had been granted, and that’s what the sign is about. One place on the site closed yesterday – the Neighborhood Service Center mentioned in a front-page story. Though city budget cuts killed it, it would have had to move eventually.

GenHillOneParticipantHey, Rocksport…Charlestown Cafe???
July 2, 2011 at 12:48 am #728153
JiggersMemberI thought someone already was taking the Charlestown location already Gen… I maybe wrong. It’s not a bad idea. Plenty of parking and a decent size and still in W.S. Maybe they want to downsize more or just retire from the whole business already. In any case, the economy is slowly returning, so its time to build and bank on the future.

I WonderMemberNope to Charlestown Cafe. Because…you guessed it! A high rise residential building!

JiggersMemberOk..they’re going to build high-end overpriced apartments. Not condos. My bad.

NenaMemberMan, I hope they aren’t going anywhere soon. I only discovered them recently when I went there to watch some of the NHL playoff games. I was hoping to to go there now and then next season. Hopefully they can relocate or I’ll have to find another place that will reliably show hockey.

miwsParticipantThey are actually part of the reason the Connor project has been delayed by 8 years or so.
The were a couple of years into a ten year lease, when the plans were originally announced, and fought to stay. (Don’t recall if there was an actual lawsuit involved)

grrParticipantRocksport=Best Burgers EVER. sigh.
July 5, 2011 at 6:58 pm #728159
GenHillOneParticipantDuh, I knew that – even spoke up for this particular developer – but brainfarted that it was the same location. Oh well, as fun as I think it would be to have Rocksport around the corner, I suspect the neighbors who are against the development would also find the sounds of people enjoying themselves far too disruptive, lol. Am I right?

dbseaMemberIMO, a 7 or 8 story building right in the junction and on Cal. will greatly change the feel of the junction. And not for the better. Those few blocks, the main 2 really, are unique, different, old and with character. Another generic big box will help destroy that. Too bad the juntion may eventually be just another spot of new urban density.
