kParticipanti had this happen back when i lived in illinois. the only way it stopped was by us putting small pieces of colored glass on the windows. you can get decorative ones that suction cup to the glass. it just takes some color to break their vision. it worked!

JanSParticipantHouse…are there any berry bushes nearby, that the birds may be eating. When I was in my house, we had this happen periodically…even crows…they would eat the cherries in the front yard, the berries fermented in their tummy, instant drunk…whoa, into the window. Or…it could be that your windows are just too clean…lol..stop that :)
interesting article, k…
House…good luck…I’m sure the kids hate to see this happen, even more than you do…:(

GenHillOneParticipantHas anyone else had more than the usual number of birds hitting windows recently? We’ve had several – and nothing is different this year with the house. On the lower level, they’ve survived. One that hit the upper level died, probably from the two-story drop to driveway rather than the actual impact.

RonMParticipantIt’s not unusual and over the years we’ve had birds of every size striking our picture windows. We haven’t kept records, but many smaller birds from Starlings to Robins and larger birds occasionally too. It’s not a frequent occurance, perhaps 3 or 4 a year. It never happens when the drapes are closed and they’ve never broken a window. Many have not survived ether.

hopeyParticipantThe way I’ve always seen it done was to put a black paper silhouette of a large bird (preferably a raptor) on the window. This will fool the birds into thinking it’s the shadow of a larger bird coming their way, and they will avoid the window.
