herongrrrlParticipantJust after sunset tonight I heard the unmistakable call of a Swainson’s thrush coming from the Me Kwa Mooks greenbelt. It sounded like it was toward the south end of the park, up the hill from Jacobsen Road. Anyone else notice this? This is not a bird I have ever before heard within the city limits, so I was very surprised to hear it here!
(You can hear the call here: http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/750/_/Swainsons_Thrush.aspx ; one of the prettier ones in the PNW, in my humble opinion.)

JeannieParticipantThanks for the link! I just played it, and it caught my parrot’s attention. I sometimes hear a very sweet trilling sound in the earliest hours of the morning – don’t know what it is, but it’s lovely. Hooray for birds!

AlkiMacParticipantI thought I saw a Swainson’s thrush Saturday in Mee Kwa Mooks. I’ve definitely seen them in Schmitz Park.
I’d say chances are good that you did hear a Swainson’s song.
Nice!

cathywMemberherongrrl, very cool birding link you sent us to. Sorry I can’t help you with what you are looking for. But now that I have a good reference site, I will pay more attention to the bird calls around me. Thanks!

aunteesocialParticipantI’d trade my all of my crows for a couple of Swainson’s Thrush! I heard this bird in Oregon and when I rented a little shack on Bainbridge Island years ago. I love that call- very ethereal. A lovely sound to end a summer afternoon.
