    btw..

it really is too bad that their camping fine story didn’t end with the ranger giving them a warning and 5 bucks for camping …

perhaps the next person they interact with will be more generous.

Though I don’t comment, I do follow this post

    But….but…you just commented! Twice! ;-)

Thanks for the kind words, Talaki. I was just beginning to get to know Ben, during my short stint back in Camp between hospital stays. Like m22 sez, he’s a good guy, and a hard worker.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to know Doug, although I believe I met him.

Ben texted yesterday that he was within 20 miles of the Golden Gate bridge and could see it through the haze. He also mentioned that Doug was “on his way back” to take care of some business but didn’t elaborate where “back” was. We’ve texted Doug to see what’s up.

Ben: “338 miles to go from Gilroy to LA and this takes 206 turns and street changes”.

Doug is somewhere, location unknown and we’ve left several texts and voice mails for him. Ben hasn’t been able to contact him either.

Yesterday Ben was 15 miles from Morro Bay and will be back on the coast. He had heard from Doug from Fort Bragg.

So, Ben is going to Morro, and Doug has something to Bragg about?

Ben’s morning report-in said he was leaving Ventura, heading south. Glad he’s keeping in touch with others here on WSB.

Got an e mail from an individual that had met Ben on hwy 79 between Warner Springs and Aguanga. Ben had lost his phone and said he will contact us via his laptop when he has access to wi-fi.

As far as Doug goes, no return texts so far.

Doug texted “hi” about a week ago and that was it. No mention of his whereabouts. Ben called from Nevada saying that he had been in 114 degree heat and decided to head north to Utah next where he expected cooler temps. He passed thru the tip of Arizona to be able to say he was there. His bike trailer was stolen in Laughlin(sp?) and he traded his beefy bike for a lighter , faster model. He was averaging 70 miles per day and has lost 100 pounds since leaving Nickelsville. Lean, mean biking machine.

I just wanted to let you all know that I saw Ben on Hwy 77 near Milford, Kansas! It was so nice to talk to him! Is there a FB I can follow him and his whereabouts on? I wish him nothing but the best! I hope the couple bottles of water helped him a little in this horrible Kansas heat!

This just in from the Munchkin’s, who asked me to post ‘cuz it has pix.

    Dear [Munchkins],

Hello, I hope this email finds you well. The reason I am writing is I ran in to a friend of yours, Ben Mire, as he made his way into my town of Pocahontas, Iowa. I’m a writer for the local paper, the Pocahontas Record-Democrat, and Ben was kind enough to sit with me for a bit over a cup of coffee and tell me his story. He’s a heck of a guy, undertaking a heck of a project. After the interview was done, and before he went on his way eastward, he asked me to drop you a line and let you know where he was, and where he was headed. He’s planning on crossing into Illinois, crossing the Mississippi in Dubuque, IA, in a few days, and he’s doing very well. He’s met some kind people on the road. I’ve attached a couple of pictures I shot for the article, I figured you might be interested in seeing them. These are the edited ones for the paper. If you want the raw, full-sized images, let me know. Feel free to email me back, or give me a call at the number (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Central time) below if you had any questions.

    Thanks,

    Jamie Whitney
