I just saw a sandwich board down by Alki for the Beach Bungalow Preschool that is Waldorf-inspired. I haven’t heard of it and couldn’t find any information about it online or find the number in the W. Seattle phone book. I’m curious if anyone has heard of it and if you have any feedback on it. Thanks!

There is a state licensing database for schools and child cares – Nothing by that name comes up so you may want to call the toll-free number that also is mentioned on this page:

Hmm, interesting – thanks for the tip. I looked up Cometa Playschool since I read about it on an earlier blog post but also didn’t find that in this database. It is listed as a preschool option on the W. Seattle blog though so maybe it’s under a different name? Thanks so much for your reply.

Sounds really intriguing. All the classrooms have sand-covered floors, sunlamps and real palm trees. Not to mention the virgin pina coladas in sippy cups.

Programs that run for less than 4 hours a day -these are considered Pre-Schools-are not required to be licensed by the State. You are best to visit the program yourself and decide if it’s a good fit for your family. Licensing does not insure the quality of a program just that somone from the State has checked in once every 2 years.

    Batty,

It’s run by a mom of many on 59th or 60th, one block south of Alki. She has a downstairs basement turned into a pre-school/play area for ages 2-6. We checked it out a couple of years ago, but we needed a full-day kindergarten.

The mom who runs this no longer uses the downstairs area, and she has expanded her program. I really liked Kip and her program, which is very Waldorf influenced with creative play, lots of outdoor time. My only problem has been transportation, very awkward by bus between these areas of West Seattle, of course.

If you want creative play and lots of outdoor time you could check out the Community School of West Seattle-it’s just up the street from Westwood village.
