Just got our VW Golf TDI back from Hans VW after it went kerflooey yesterday. And it seems we weren’t the only ones. After my wife got the car to Hans yesterday, they mentioned that we were the 6th car brought in yesterday to have the same problem — fuel filter failure due to (most likely) a bad batch of biodiesel. I think the folks at Hans contacted the folks at Seaport Biofuels (where we tanked up) and were able to determine that this was the cause. I’m going to be calling them today to find out more, and will update this thread later.

Seaport has been bad news for some time. The pump has been malfunctioning time and again and for a few weeks, only B20 was available. And then this weekend the credit card reader wouldn’t work. Yesterday there was someone pumping biodiesel ahead of us. He was reading a book in his car and said that he had been there for quite some time as the pump was pumping extremely slowly. And I’m thinking to myself… are you sure you want to be pumping at all?

It will be awhile before I can trust Seaport again. I’m glad that Propel is coming!

Does anyone know, is Safeway in the Admiral District still offering only B5? Why bother if you are only pumping B5?

I had to replace my fuel filter twice in a 6 week period. I also had $2000 worth of work done on my Jetta to clean its ‘arteries’ of biodiesel buildup.

Even with the card reader problems and the 2 minute per gallon filling times that I have experienced at Seaport it I continued to use it because it was the only convenient biodiesel. Now I am really looking forward to Propel because it is right up the street. I hope it is cleaner and works better than Seaport!

I have opportunities to be in the Crossroads area of Bellevue and fill up at the Propel over there. I have never had any problem with their fuel. I am looking to make my own biodiesel this summer.
