I just finished registering for the garage sale.

One of the forum members donated the use of her home so that those of us who wanted to garage sale together could. (2600 block of 45th)

this location will have at least one table dedicated to a charity sale… and we don’t know which one yet..

i am hoping to have some original items (art, fabric art, jewelry.. etc)at my table but we are looking for a few other people to join us… and are open to anything from used stuff to plant starts…

At the benefit, we heard that there might be other forum members who were also planning group sales and might be interested in joining in some kind of forum member scavenger hunt style game linking sales on garage sale day.

As always.. we would love to hear ideas…. including which local charity you feel needs to be supported next…

and whether you think a scavenger hunt.. or location based quiz might be fun…

    so let the suggestions begin:)

and… if you are interested in either actually participating in one of these ideas.. please email me at joanne at brayden dot org…

of course you get to sit JanS…

what else could you do this close to your surgery?

    Besides..

we know you are plenty entertaining when you sit:)

at least we hear you are.. not having actually seen you on the news:)

Jan, not only can you sit, you can also look at the trees from a different direction.

Once again, we’ve registered for the auction and we’ll be in business. If you live around 47th/Admiral and you have stuff to sell and you don’t want to have a whole auction yourelf, you’re welcome to share our space. I have a unique approach to yard sales — and “other peoples’ stuff” fits nicely into the paradigm. :-)

great.. there will be more than one WSB forum members site…

are you interested in some sort of scavenger hunt or quiz that would link the sites?

In my house, ‘yard sale’ is a four letter word. I work my hiney off sorting and pricing and artfully arranging my stuff, I give away anything of value to friends and family because I’m too soft, and then sit on my butt in a lawn chair for 10 hours a day on my precious weekends, while people traipse through my yard and paw through my stuff and argue with me over whether something should be a quarter or 50 cents…

Then at the end of a long and tedious weekend, I generally make about $30.

    :-)

    So that’s a no!

Kayleigh, that is exactly how I feel. That’s why I am donating my yard for the sale. I can leave at anytime to look at the other neighborhood sales, but still visit with the pleasant company upon my return.

Wth the scavenger hunt, all I can think of is a “Homes with history” type tour.

“This 1942 brick bungalow, with intact original floor plan, is across the street from Lafayette School. What 1949 event preceded the construction of the current school?”

Job, I’m sure the scavenger hunt will be fun, but I’ll be lucky to get a yard sale together — so I’ll have to pass. All of the yard sales are part of the West Seattle Blog network, which is obviously going to be wildly successful.

Maybe I’m just a humble forum poster, not a member of the inner circle (Hell, I don’t even know the password, handshake, or song, and I didn’t even vote in the election. :-)

    charlabob…

thanks for letting us know you don’t want to participate..

i think we could have all done without the rest… your personal animosity is showing.

if anyone else is interested.. just let me know.

if there is no interest.. there will be no game.

Um, I did not mean to be showing any personal animosity. I was making fun of myself. If “we all” feel that way, please let me know.

But charlabob, your clue could be, “Frances Farmer lived in this neighborhood.”

Gina…to question #1…can you feel the earth move?

remember the “Homes with History” tour? I miss that…

I figure with one sale just south of Admiral Way on 45th…

and , Charlabob, another at 47th and Admiral Way…if we get bored, we can just get some exercise and come over and visit…if it’s a warm day (G-d, let’s hope), you could have a big pitcher of the aforementioned vodka and lemonade to sip on ( known in my circles as a Yellow Jacket – they sting when you least suspect it)

Hey, everyone…it’s a sale…a community event…..a happening, as it were……there’s supposed to be lots of them, and supposed to be lots of fun :)

Aw, Jan, I would love to. I meant no offense either. I was really poking fun at my own failures.

My clue could be “Kayleigh once wept quietly here after someone offered her 25 cents for a perfectly good Pyrex(tm) pie plate that was easily worth $1.00.” Or: “Kayleigh felt inferior as a fashion dork when someone offered her only $1 for her old baggy fuscia-colored 80s-style sweater that even she hadn’t worn for 20 years.”

(all said jokingly with a grain of truth!) :-)

Hey, I’m in! My mother-in-law is moving out of our house into her own place, so it’s a moving sale as well as a yard sale. Lots of furniture coming out of storage. I always say, “This will be my last yard sale,” (e.g., last year) but here we are having another one! I’ll try to get away for a bit and check out Gina’s house. It’s only three blocks from me!

Kayleigh…I have problems with holding on to things that I know damned well will just go right back into a closet until 3 years from now. “Oh, maybe I’ll use that sometime”. So…you bring you, and whatever I part with, I’ll split the 15 cents with you ;-), and your ego can remain in tact – lol…

At one of the early community meetings.. someone suggested we might want to do a yard sale or table for charity… at the garage sale..

when Gina offered her house.. it seemed like a good idea…

so.. jan made the connections.. gina donated the house.. i donated the fee… and we are in business:)

with yard sales.. i have always found the more the merrier…

and i love the idea of a roving sale.. actually walking from one to the next… with fun, friends and refreshments along the way…

that’s where the idea for a game or scavenger hunt of some kind came up … as a way to tie neighbors not in walking distance…

i am perfectly happy not to do the work if no one is interested…

LOL.. i think i have plenty to do just getting myself ready for the sale..

it’s time to attack the closet demons again:( i find i don’t wear the same things here as in minnesota… and who knows whatmy size is becoming? … imagine that;->

and i am doing some original pieces.. we will see how much…

anyone else with craftwork.. or plant starts.. or actual artwork.. who is interested in joining us?

we can promise beverages and good conversation:)

this is shaping up.. we heard from a jewelry maker who needed a good home.. so we won’t be inflicted with just my artwork:)

any other takers? JT.. can we convince your partner to come play?

well, I don’t do artwork, unless you include what I do with my hands on a daily basis. I suppose I could bring a massage chair, and charge like 5 bucks for a 10 minute back massage…it’s undercutting, but…hey, it’s to raise money, right? I’m lazy on weekends, though…and like to distance myself from my “professional” life a bit…so we’ll see….

I’m a little confused. Are people setting up stuff at Gina’s to make money for themselves, fund raising, or both? Or is it just a cookies and booze party:) Too far away for me to predict how I’ll feel, and the GF works on Saturdays, but I’d sure like to figure out a way to say hi at a couple places.

    JT…

Gina’s is just one of the many WSB sites for the garage sale…

    we will be partying..

i think we will be doing something for one of the charities… either a table.. food or beverage sales.. a percentage.. or something.

i confess.. we haven’t had lunch yet… and we have to decide over lunch ;-0

and we will be individually selling stuff…

if you and your partner have stuff or art you might like to exchange for some cash.. i would be glad to make sure it makes it to the garage sale and the money makes it home to your house if you aren’t feeling up to joining us… within reason, of course:)

i will have either the minivan.. the truck.. or both:) and i think i will have hubby’s muscle:) he might even choose to stay and party…

hmmm.. garage sale with me or home alone with his computer and the dogs..

this is clearly going to be a difficult decision for him:)
