I realize they’ve only been open a couple of days, but was curious if anyone reading had tried it yet, and if so, what your thoughts were.

yeh, I’ve been dying to hear reviews; apparently there are a lot of folks in our neighborhood with good paying jobs, because Bang Bar has been packed since opening night

We sampled it on Friday. The interior is awesome, very cool. We did not have any main courses, it was kind of pricey. The drinks were good. I can see going back there for happy hour or late night drinks. The food looked good, but we don’t usually spend that much when we go out.

Stopped in for happy hour Saturday evening. They were doing happy drinks, but not happy food (though they do have a hh food menu which looks really good). Bartender said the kitchen needs to get up to speed before they start the hh food. I think they’ll be doing two HH’s, one 4 to 6pm and another 10 to 12.

Anyway, the $5 hh cocktails were great. We tried the calamari appetizer from the regular menu and it was very good. The food we saw coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic. It is a bit more expensive than Buddha Ruksa, but I think the menu items are quite different. As someone else mentioned, I think their competition is more Spring Hill than other Thai restaurants. It’s destination dining, not a place to get quick takeout. There’s nothing inherent in Thai food that requires it be cheap. I’d much rather have an awesome Thai restaurant than just another mediocre one (like so many in Seattle).

They’ve done an excellent job with the interior design. Feels much smaller and cozier than the old Thai place. The addition of a bar area really adds to the appeal. It was pretty busy, so that’s a good sign.

I think with the addition of A Terrible Beauty next door this end of California will finally have a permanent anchor. Great news for the neighborhood!

Oh yeah, one more thing, the female bartender is a definite plus. Super friendly and not afraid to crack jokes with the customers and staff.

Village Green said it all. We were there Friday night and the food (Pad Thai) was great. A little slow coming out of the kitchen, but not bad for a packed first night. Sangria looked yummy so will need to make a 2nd trip soon.

Not only was the bartender friendly, in all the busy rush she was very efficient.

I went in a checked out the menu. All but a few dishes are quite expensive: $18+. That’s substantially pricier than Buddha Ruksa, so I can see why they don’t view Bang bar as competition. The food may very well be worth it, but the menu lacked any of the type of dishes I was in the mood for (e.g. larb gai, yum woon sen, green papaya salad).

So, if you’re hungry for typical West Seattle Thai fare, this might not be the place. If you want something a bit out of the ordinary, it’s probably worth a try.

I stopped in last night to check out the menu after yoga. Will try it but the menu looked a bit pricey. It was packed which was great to see.

Tried it last night. The food was quite good and very unique. They are masters of the crunchy stuff, including an eggplant appetizer that we really enjoyed. The $14 pad thai was totally worth it with all the seafood, including an entire soft-shell crab. The decor is cool but it seems a little crowded – I think they should ditch a table or two. It was jam-packed at 7pm.

They still have a lot of kinks to work out, primarily in the ordering / delivering; it took a very long time for our drinks to appear, even after multiple reminders. I never did quite figure out who was our waiter / server, as so many different people stopped by. One of them was a guy who was very “hands-y” which to me is a huge no-no in restaurants – don’t touch the customers! Totally inappropriate to come up behind someone and grab their shoulder while they’re eating… to me at least.

They don’t serve knives with your silverware; the ones we requested and received were shaped in a weird roundish way that prevented them from resting on the side of a plate. Sounds crazy and small but I found this really annoying.

I noticed someone getting a bag of takeout and I think they should suspend that option until the restaurant gets up to speed. I looked around the room at one point and noticed a lot of tables with no drinks or food. On that note, I’d suggest waiting a few weeks to try it out and hopefully the service will improve. I think once they are firing on all cylinders, it will be a nice addition to the neighborhood.

As for the touchy thing Keith, you do live in West Seattle now.

My husband and I went for opening night. A couple of observations – it took about 10 minutes for someone to get our drink orders, then another 20 minutes for the drinks to appear at our table. The food took an astonishing hour and 15 minutes to be served.

While the food & drinks were very good, the interior beautiful and the staff friendly, I won’t be back for a while. I know waiting for your food on opening night at a restaurant is to be expected, but I believe so is sending over a couple of free drinks or an appetizer to share to make the time pass. This didn’t happen here, which is too bad. The bill for our meal (one appetizer, two entrees and four drinks) came to $130 w/tip. Not a deal-breaker for a nice dinner out, but we seem to get more food, better quality and a more cozy atmosphere at Blackboard Bistro.

We’ll try BangBar again, I’m sure, but not until they’ve got some of the kinks worked out.

Wife and I went last night. We thought the food was fresh but not out of this world especially for the price. It was kind of weird that the Green Curry Chicken came with 4 whole legs of chicken (bone in)….not what I am accustomed to or really like. The green curry was really good and the rice was nice but the portion was small. I guess I like my more typical Thai haunts like Budda, Jamjuree etc. better. I wish them luck!

I just can’t get passed the name “Bang Bar” without an inside chuckle. Sounds like an “adult” film title.

We tried it last weekend and judging from the previous comments they still need time to work out food quality kinks.

Hopefully they are taking these reviews as constructive criticism so they can solve the problems.

We thought the interior and people were great. The food is average, and a bit pricy. Our dishes had much more appeal in presentation style than flavor. The pad thai was bland, and the green curry was composed of a nice sauce over dry chicken wings.

We thought they needed to focus on flavor and good food, then presentation and plating.

We are looking forward to them working out the kinks & so we can go back and have a great meal!

Sounds like Alex and JayJay must have been there at the same time, ordering the same dish. The green curry chicken is supposed to be a whole game hen.

Went in for the first time on Friday night – what a pleasant experience! The place was full & buzzing when we arrived around 7:30. We waited at the bar but our table was ready about 5 minutes after getting our drinks. The atmosphere is really nice, good background music and nice lighting. Both of our entrees were very flavorful and quite large; the menu may seem pricey, but you are essentially getting close to two portions! My husband had the grilled rack of lamb and it was served with 6-7 mini chops plus a pile of fresh steamed veggies and rice for $17. At any other “nice” restaurant, that entree would easily be $30. I had the Moonlight Halibut and it was excellent and huge – we took half home. Service was friendly and efficient. So, it seems that in the last 2 months since these reviews they have made a lot of positive improvements. They also offer free delivery which is a great option! We’ll be back for sure.
