JeffSavoieMemberI’ve got two jobs I am working on, here in West Seattle, that I thought I should bring to the attention of anyone living near by.
First, around the 7300 block of 31st SW, are two raccoons, that have a history of attacking cats, injuring two just this week.
Second, in the vicinity of 40th SW & SW Hanford, is a family group, and a couple bachelors, who’ve exhibited aggressive behavior towards people and pets.
As with all wild animals, my best advice is to steer clear of them, and don’t present them with any opportunity to do harm.

JeffSavoieMemberA couple days ago, I removed a mother raccoon and two second litter* juveniles, from the 40th & Hanford area.
*It’s worth noting, that female raccoons that lose a litter in spring will often come into estrus a second time.
This spring seems to be one with an exceptional second birthing, both in it’s volume, and in it’s lateness.
Female wild animals, with dependent young, are the most aggressive. Be aware that there are still quite a few around.

JeffSavoieMemberJo,
Someone always thinks they’re cute. :)
WSratsinacage,
Someone always thinks they’re a pain, too… :D
Beachdrivegirl,
I use the methods and means allowed by the State of Washington, and my commercial Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator’s permit.
This will vary dependent upon each individual species, and situation, encountered.
In the case of these particular raccoons, I used live capture traps.
Jerald,
I load them up in my truck, and drive away. ;)
Jo,
You’re correct, one would hire me, to help prevent, mitigate, or rectify, a nuisance wildlife problem.
I’ll look into fixing my profile.
Jerald,
I knew what you meant…
With raccoons and dozens of other species, the State has issued guidelines on the final “disposition” of live captured wild animals.
Other than mice and rats (and a few other very specific applications), my license doesn’t, nor does the reality of most urban environments, allow for lethal means of capture.
Since this is my profession, I assume most people want me to behave in a professional manner.
And that behavior, I assume, includes adhering to the law… and the established guidelines here in this region (WDFW Region 4), are, let’s just say “strict”, in regards to raccoons.
Like I said before, don’t ask, don’t tell, works for me… I put ’em in my truck, and drive away, and nobody needs to know.
Without putting my licenses at risk, I’ll say this, I do everything I can to help my clients reach logical and ethical solution to their desires.
