karizma23MemberI sent a FYI to WSB about this last night, but we had a visit from an ADT “Rep” at 8pm last night (Wed, 12/8) asking to put an ADT sign in our yard as part of a 1 day promotion and wondering if we were interested in a home security system. I said no thanks and he quickly left. Unfortunately I didn’t think fast enough to ask for ID, but I definitely wasn’t interested (in the service or continuing the intrusive conversation) and he quickly was on his way. Keep an eye out. Thanks.

alki_2008ParticipantWhat are we supposed to be watching for?
Someone that’s trying to solicit you with something you don’t want…or someone that’s impersonating an ADT salesman?
.
Since no ID was requested, then there’s no proof (just suspicion) that the person was not indeed with ADT.

karizma23MemberWell, as a neighborly FYI, I’d say watch out for both, unless you enjoy having your evenings interrupted. The point of these folks is to appear legit, and I’m just saying he may or may not be, so if you happen to answer your door, keep that in mind. I’m not saying the person was definitely a scammer – what I am saying is that the circumstances of the visit (and the offer) were sketchy, and it raised some flags with me.
Better to be informed IMO.

anonymeParticipantkarizma23, I think your concern is justified. Door to door anything, any time is sketchy at best, but 8 pm is both suspicious and inexcusable. The request is strange as well; why put a sign in someone’s yard for one day? West Seattle gets a lot of security company scammers who never have I.D. and refuse to leave any information. I appreciate the heads-up.
