rockergirl5678ParticipantYou can donate to the Addie Killam Benevolent fund, which has now been established through the Washington Mutual Bank. Go into any WA MU and tell them you’d like to make a donation. With the long journey ahead we need your support. On behalf of the Killam family, thanks for all your prayers and gifts.
West Seattle Blog is helping get the word out about 20-year-old Adrianna “Addie” Killam, a Seattle girl who suffered a bizarre surfing injury while on spring break in Maui. Addie flew back to Seattle this week to start rehab at the UW Medical Center. What she experienced is truly frightening. On March 19, she and three college friends took a surfing lesson. But while leaving the water, Addie felt strange. She started to feel numb in her toes. She had friends take her to the hospital, where she learned she had experienced a surfing injury known as “Surfer’s Myelopathy” that affects the spinal chord and results in paralysis. West Seattle Blog reports that it’s common in first-time surfers because when they twist their neck to look back at the waves, the blood supply to the spinal chord gets cut off. Full recovery is possible, but it’s hard work. Addie Killam – who sounds very brave – is documenting her recovery online. Visitors can make a donation to help her on her journey.
One thing they’re using to keep family, friends and others updated is a website that includes journal entries, a guestbook, and other updates (when a fundraiser is announced, for example, that info will be on the site). You can find it here:
