furryfacesParticipantHere is Big Al’s event/press release summary:
Bear is a 1 1/2 year old pup that currently weighs about 115 pounds and a gentle giant. He has Wobblers Disease, which pretty much means that he got ‘too big too fast’. Wobblers Disease compresses the spinal cord and/or nerves in the neck which makes it very painful for poor Bear to move. He has okay days and his bad days. Most days he can ‘wobble’ around but other days he can’t even get up and walk. Bear is confused about what’s going on because internally he’s a young pup but physically feels like an old man.
If none of you now the Clayton family, here’s a background. Josh has been a single dad for 10 years. 5 years ago he had his mother move in so he could care for her; she is bedridden from Multiple Sclerosis. After moving into a bigger and more expensive home for all of them Josh was in a horrible car accident on his way to work that has left him paralyzed him from the waist down. Other complications have sent him in and out of the hospital for years. Despite their adversity this family is so positive and appreciate everyday of life it’s inspiring. Money is tight for them with caregivers, medications, etc. Without this benefit they cannot afford their “best friend’s” surgery.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Big Al’s Brewing Company is putting together a benefit to support the cost of Bear’s surgery. The surgery alone is $5,500 and he’s expected to make a 100% recovery and live a full, healthy and long life.
The event will be held at Big Al’s Brewery in West Seattle on Tuesday, August 13th from 6pm to 9pm.
Raffles, gift bags/ baskets, a food truck,
multiple sponsors with more to come!
All donations will be going towards Bear’s surgery!
This will be a good time for an even better cause so please, let’s save a member of the Clayton family ♥ ♥ ♥

SonomaParticipantBump for Bear!

RagsParticipantI know this is not the response you’re looking for but isn’t euthanasia sometimes the best recourse? It breaks my heart to think about this poor animal trying to even get up and walk, not to mention living with this pain on a daily basis. Several years ago, when my dog was in a situation similar to Bear’s, I spent hours at the vet consulting on what was best for him. Fortunately, I was lucky to find a compassionate doctor who took the time to explain the difference between the human psyche and animal psyche and how animals simply do not have the view of dying that humans do and how it was sometimes best to let them move on to a better place. Washington has a death with dignity law for humans so shouldn’t we extend the same consideration to our beloved furry friends?

etohick616Memberhas anyone asked bear what he wants to do? i have used 2 “animal talkers” in the past. polly klein at tonglen healing arts for amimals and kim miller. both of these gals have been spot on. i adopt senior animals and with that there are issues. their advise has eased my mind, and heart. yes, i will be at the fundraiser but i side with rags as well. as mere humans, we can only hope for wisdom and acceptance.

dee kalaniParticipantAs posted, the surgery should give Bear a very good chance( 100% is noted )to regain a healthy life, the Vet should do this surgery NOW ASAP knowing that West Seattle animal lovers will make this fundraiser a success, and that the surgery would be paid for! CU at the fundraiser, wish it was sooner for Bear !Paws up for Big Al’s too

ReedDogMemberHow can we donate to this worthy cause if we are unable to attend the benefit?
August 10, 2013 at 4:55 pm #795709
furryfacesParticipantHi Reed, thank you! Let us find out the answer this question. Big Al’s just shared this event with us, so we don’t have all of the details.
Dee Kalani–thank you for attending the fundraiser!

August 11, 2013 at 7:11 pm #795711
Talaki34ParticipantBump, bump!
August 11, 2013 at 9:44 pm #795712
furryfacesParticipantFor those that would like to contribute but cannot make the event, we are trying to see if a ‘goFundme’ site can be set up for Bear. Stay tuned.
August 12, 2013 at 11:11 am #795713
Talaki34ParticipantWould you also see if we may make a payment directly to the Vet?
August 12, 2013 at 2:35 pm #795714
KimberleyParticipantWould love to donate, as I can’t attend tomorrow – which vet is performing the surgery?
August 13, 2013 at 5:23 pm #795715
furryfacesParticipantBear’s people are very busy putting together tonight’s event so F3 has decided to take one task off their list.
If folks would like to donate to Bear’s surgery, you may:
1) go to our (new) website, http://www.furryfacesfoundation.org, click on the ‘donate’ button located at the bottom of each page. It will take you to paypal, when confirming your donation, please click on ‘Add special instructions to recipient’ and type ‘For Bear’ in the box that will appear. That way we’ll know to get your generous donation to Bear.
2) Checks may be made payable to Furry Faces; please note on the check that your donation is for Bear.
3) We do not yet have the Vet’s name, but once ascertained, we will post on the forum.
Thank you to everyone that wants to help Bear and his family.
Cheers, The F3 Gang

mopMemberWill donations be tax-deductible?
August 13, 2013 at 6:36 pm #795717
furryfacesParticipantHi Mop, the donations are not tax deductible because they are going to a specific person.
Furry Faces Foundation is a Washington State Charity. We are not a 501(c)3.

dee kalaniParticipantHello Clayton Family and Furry faces. I had good intentions to go to Big Al’s today for Bear’s fundraiser since I can’t make it, I used the link to donate. With that I send good energy, and pray that Bear gets the needed surgery, has a full recovery and has a great life with the Clayton’s. Blessings to all who are involved!
Aloha

furryfacesParticipantAugust 14, 2013 at 1:55 am #795720
SonomaParticipantCome on down to Big Al’s and meet Bear and Josh. Bear is a wonderful, friendly dog – and Josh is cool, too! Raffle prizes are nice – and raffle tickets are just $2 apiece or 3 for $5. Perfect evening for a fresh, cold beer and a good deed for Bear and co. Party is on till 9 PM.
August 14, 2013 at 4:55 pm #795721
furryfacesParticipantWe got to meet Bear last night. He is a delightful, goofy soul….making us smile and giggle while he gave us kisses.
Josh is also a very nice man and it’s obvious how bonded he is to Bear…who, even with his painful condition, is working on becoming Josh’s service animal.
We were able to find out another method for people to donate. You can go to Paypal and donate directly to Josh and Bear’s account: jtclayton2@yahoo.com
August 14, 2013 at 11:13 pm #795722
WestSeattleEastParticipantIt would be great to know how much has been raised and how much there is to go. Pulling for Bear!
August 14, 2013 at 11:25 pm #795723
dee kalaniParticipantWas the goal met? Is Bear scheduled for his surgery? do we need to have a car wash bake sale ? It seems like this dog should have already had this life saving surgery. Vet’s should do pro bono or subsidize some surgeries, I know that it’s been done in the past, I’m involved with MEOW K-9 division for my beloved Shar-Peis, and I would leave no stone unturned !
August 15, 2013 at 2:30 am #795724
WSBKeymasterSomeone related to this reported to us on Twitter last night that they had raised $1K at the event. I have no information on this situation beyond what’s in this forum post – nothing was ever sent to us as site editors, “press release” or otherwise, and so it was not in our Events calendar – so I don’t have a contact to inquire with; hopefully F3 does. – TR
August 15, 2013 at 4:52 pm #795725
furryfacesParticipantHi TR.
Thank you! We will get you contact info for Bear.(In the interim, you may want to try Josh’s email, jtclayton2@yahoo.com)
Furry Faces has a total of $250 for Bear which is in not in $1,000 total. If folks would like to contribute Bear, there are currently three ways (that we know of,to do so ).
1) go to Paypal and donate directly to Josh and Bear’s account: jtclayton2@yahoo.com
2) go to furryfacesfoundation.org, click on the ‘donate’ button, When ‘confirming’ your donation, please click on ‘Add special instructions to recipient’ and type ‘For Bear’ in the box that will appear so we know your generous donation is for Bear.
3) Checks may be made payable to Furry Faces; please note on the check that your donation is for Bear, and mail to 3809 46th Ave SW, 98116.
At dee kalani: A bake sale is a great idea. If you want to lead the effort, we would be happy to assist with finding a place to hold (we have an idea or two) and assist with the PR/Advertising. We would even put a call out to F-cubers for baked goods donations. Shoot us an email at furryfaces@hotmail.com.
Thanks Everyone, The F3 Gang
