Lets just say that going forward when asked in the grocery line after my groceries have been packed by the clerk “do you need some help out” i will be saying yes. Need to ensure my 2o cents per bag is going to good use. so if i purchase a carton of milk i’ll be accepting that help out:-) i’m so sick of the decisions that are made by the leadership in this city and county. we are the laughing stocks of the nation.

I don’t think the 20 cents is going except back to the grocery stores (under 1 mil gross, back to the store and over 15 cents to the store is how I read it). The cost to the store is already factored in their pricing.

Isn’t this truly just another hidden tax/charge that probably won’t accomplish what it was intended to? I say ban them completely if you’re going to do this. I bring my own bags 99 percent of the time (and I walk and take the bus to the store since I don’t have a car) and I love the 5 cents I get back from my chosen stores..Maybe Mayor you know who, will give free bags to those who can’t afford them (kind of like the low flow shower heads we got)..

Envirox are really the way to go…I’m giving them to all of my friends for Christmas this year. Think groovy stocking stuffer..hostess gift..they come in so many pretty colors (not like nasty plastic bags)(and they are washable!!)

I do pricing (POS) in a neighborhood grocery store that grosses over a million dollars, so we’ll receive $.05 back from the $.20 fee. But….believe me when I tell you it’s going to cost stores a lot more than the .05 returned to them. The cost of administering/reporting the plastic bag fee alone is going to drive up operating expenses for grocery stores – an industry that runs on a very slim profit margin.

Also, we’re now in the process of looking for a less expensive reusable bag than what we have now to give/sell to our customers come next January when the demand will be greater. And since we now give away 4-5 times more bags than we sell (at cost), the additional bags provided certainly won’t generate any revenue.

So….I guess it’s just ‘wait and see’ how this all plays out.

Jiggers – I doubt any baggers will lose their jobs. Someone still has to bag the reusable bags that are brought in. Also, I bet there will be plenty of people who’ll pay the .20 because they want the plastic for dog poo, kitty litter, etc. or have forgotten their reusable bags.

Full tilt.. i did notice… i think their heart and their desire to keep the floor dry and safe is in the right place.. but the method leaves something to be desired…

thanks for the tip about the food banks giving away bags. i know where to take my excess:)

i gave a couple away today coming out of trader joes and got a big thank you from the woman on her way in… they already charge for bags.
