Have I gone mad or does West Seattle–at least in the Junction, more or less–smell strongly of wildfire smoke? Airnow.gov says it’s perfectly clear, but that’s not my experience.

I just wanted to drop a recommendation for Strong Hammer & Brush for exterior house painting and carpentry here, in case anyone’s looking to get that type of work done. At the very beginning of this year, I got estimates from several companies to paint the exterior of my 1940s Highland Park home and to rebuild exterior stairs that were starting to rot. All estimates I received were in the same ballpark, but what I appreciated about Peter from Strong Hammer & Brush was his attention to detail, personability, and communication regarding what he and his team would do to get my home ready for painting and to preserve the longevity of my home’s exterior (I still have cedar siding, which I love). He also asked me thoughtful questions about my preferences for stair design and offered some color suggestions where I was waffling, which I appreciated. We communicated back and forth via email regarding the contract and scheduling, and Peter was quick to respond to any questions I had. Prep, painting and carpentry began on schedule and was completed pretty quickly. My house looks so lovely—I’m very happy with the work that was done. The only work that wasn’t anticipated in the initial estimate was repair of a window casing and sill where rot was discovered during pressure washing. The additional cost for materials and labor seemed very reasonable, and the repair looks great. My new exterior stairs are very nice—they are solid, really attractive and the design goes well with the style of my house. I highly recommend reaching out to Peter Shank if you’re looking to have painting and/or carpentry work done! https://www.stronghammerandbrush.com/

I have noticed it for several years. It’s illegal but according to a parking enforcement supervisor: We have a PEO chalking the semi-trucks weekly for the 72HR violation. The PEO is also leaving the information stating vehicles more than 80 inches wide cannot park in a residential area between midnight and 6AM. Unfortunately, parking enforcement works between 6AM-midnight, so we are not at work to enforce that ordinance. The trucks park in this area because it is close to High Point where most of the drivers live. The closest truck parking is in SODO.

I see your point but it will end up like California and Alaska where people cross when it’s not walk all ways with walk and drivers turning right on red when it’s prohibited. In addition to red light running snd illegal left turns, I have witnessed this happen for 20+ years and have asked for enforcement. SPD isn’t interested no matter the decade.

fwiw we’ve been using pawsvip near seatac for the last year. i work at the airport and start stupid early, so finding a place that actually opens before the sun was… not easy. they open at 5am, which means i can drop my dog on the way in without scrambling for a sitter the night before.

Our dog’s a goofy lab mix, a little too excited around other dogs. They don’t require any evaluations, but they will keep new dog in small playgroups first. You can also request human playtime instead of dog playtime i believe

I’m visiting from out of town and was delighted to find a Burt Reynolds bangle in a shopping cart at the Jefferson Square Safeway today, Aug 14. It looks like something from a keychain. Of course I would love to keep and cherish this icon but know that someone is undoubtedly missing him. If you are missing your Burt, send me details describing the bangle andi will mail it to you.

This summer in particular, I have had 3 pest control (in 3 weeks)salespeople trying to sell me recurring pest control services. Does anyone know of insect repellants that will work on pest control salespeople? Sure they bring up sugar ants which can be a pain, but paying $300-$400 for an initial treatment, and $175 for quarterly treatments? Terro lures and perimeter baits only run $50 @ Junction Hardware/McLendons. Have other WS folk had these type of infestations? Most of these companies have poor Yelp ratings which helps me try and shoo them off before a colony is established.

Is anyone available to do about an hour or two of moving about 10 heavy items (and possibly move and organize that same basement a little and more later) in order to clean up a basement floor? Tomorrow, Wednesday August 13th would be good, if possible, also Thursday are both days I’m around between 11 and 3 pm.

    Thank you!

I don’t know if this has been proposed before: Crossing the street on the corner of Edmunds and California is often frustrating because of the 5 corners. You can wait for one light that gets you through one part and then wait an equally long time to get to the corner you want. One block up we have an all walk light for Alaska and California. Wouldn’t it make sense to have the same design for this corner? If you give pedestrians a chance to walk to the corner they want all at once, I think you’ll give more time for traffic flow. (and by the by, a high school friend once told me she called this system a “scramble light” because you get a green light and scramble to whatever corner you want).

I came across a pair of eyeglasses lying on the roadway in the alley behind Holy Rosary (between California and 42nd Ave SW and between Genesee and Dakota) around 2:30 on Sunday afternoon. I put them onto a neighboring recycling container. I don’t swear they’re still there!

See photo of them in situ here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Q4iPXxf8ZenCtpG6A
