    Yes they are. The people you talked to are wrong. They are “neighborhood traffic circles”, and you’re supposed to go around to the right if possible. “If possible” includes situations where you got there first and you just don’t feel like driving around the circle.

    Car turns left right in front of me at 36th & Dakota. I honk, soy boy stops, walks to my car and asks “don’t you know how to drive in a rotary?” thinking he had the right of way. I say “don’t you know when to use your turn signal? That’s not a rotary.” He responds “what is it then?” I reply “it’s an island in the middle of a four way intersection.” He continues to disagree with me with condescending passive aggression. Unable to prove my point, we part ways. Intent on knowing what the law considers those circles in the road to be (as opposed to relying only on my common sense) one driving instructor and four police officers relaxing at Macrina later, I’ve confirmed that the circles in side street intersections are not rotaries (for anyone who thinks they are) and that when driving on a single lane road you use a turn signal when changing direction. Especially if you’re foolish enough to turn left right in front of an oncoming vehicle. Unfortunately ranting about bad drivers is like blowing in the opposite direction of a wind storm.

    Around 2:00pm today, Tuesday, my wife and I were walking on sidewalk near the 3300 block of Beach Dr. SW. That’s almost in front of water treatment building. A dark grey Kia or similar with dark shaded windows was parked near curb pointed west. At about 40 feet behind the vehicle a gun came out of the rear window. It was similar to a Glock automatic. We both stopped and the hand and gun were pulled back in and window went up. I was trying to get a picture of car and license plate but it drove off at high speed (noisy exhaust). I saw no need in reporting this as I couldn’t give a good description or plate number of car or it’s those in the car.

    In reply to: Car tabs – expired

    ColtonM
    Participant

    I will say, it’s an unfair generalization about the reason someone’s car tabs may be expired. Having moved from Olympia to West Seattle, my car tabs went up $300 dollars – for a lot of folks, that’s a huge increase in expense that not everyone has immediately set aside; I sure didn’t, at first and had to put a one month forbearance on my student loan to cover the unexpected expense. It’s also been documented that most Americans don’t even have $500 to cover an emergency medical expense – let alone, $400 car tabs. It’s great that you have the means, but I wouldn’t be spending my energy hunting down people with expired tabs just to berate them for whatever circumstances they are in.

    Hey everyone! My partner and I are taking the next step by moving in together and are looking for a place to rent around August. We both currently live in/near Alaska Junction and are looking for recommendations for 2 bedroom rentals (we’re open to any recommendations – from apartments, to duplexes, etc.). Our top budget limit is looking to be about $3,200. Any fellow renters out there have particular places that they’ve had a good experience renting with? Any parts of West Seattle we should particularly focus on, or steer clear of? A couple of additional things for us to consider:
    -My partner commutes, so being near the “C” line is important to us;
    -Needs to be pet friendly for our fur baby; and
    -Either has parking options, or parking available on the street as we both have vehicles.

    I’m doing my own research, but would welcome any thoughts or suggestions to assist – as my partner and I both enjoy perusing the West Seattle Blog!

    Thank you so much, everyone! :)

    Hello all! I have a large Frisco dark grey cat tree from Chewy up for grabs. My cats have loved it for a year; getting rid of it because the cats got bored of it. It is quite sturdy. There are some scratch marks on the sisal pole, but it has a brand new hammock and the rest is clean and de-fuzzed. Pickup near Whole Foods. Contact me for more info/photos. Measurements are 24″L x 28″W x 62″H.

    I was hoping that we had this cleared up last year, but I’ll state it again: If you are out walking your dog it is your responsibility to pick up your dog’s waste and bring it home with you. Please do not deposit it anywhere along the route except in a public garbage can assuming it’s not overflowing with other waste. Household and business garbage cans are for the private use of the residents/businesses that pay for the waste to be picked up. If you deposit your dog’s waste in my garbage can you will find it back out on the street. I do not have a dog and therefore, no dog waste needs to be in my garbage can. Pack it in, pack it out.
