The Nicklesville stories made a huge impact on me. I was very active on these forums between 2009-2013 and he and I often aligned on West Seattle issues. He always impressed me with his calm but clear articulation, often after I had to simply walk away from my screen if the topic got heated! It was a comfort to me to see miws comments on here all these years later when I’d flit back to see what was going on. I think I met him once at a gathering that I believe Jan S pulled together, but even though we didn’t know each other well, I considering him a kind friend. Cheers to a life well lived. -Monica

This “Pre-Death and Once-in-a-Lifetime Estate Sale,” features many high quality drinking cups-mugs and accessories, framed Asian Block Prints, antiques, Venetian masks, fencing gear, Kerosene Lamps, musical instruments, interesting knives and bayonets, straw hats, etc. etc. etc. that have been collected over a period of 50 years.

Here are some items of special interest:

As it happens, due to my long-time enjoyment of European and Japanese sport fencing, there is also a large collection of knives, bayonets, swords and fencing gear available for purchase. Some of these items are authentic original pieces. Others are nicely made replicas.

The fencing gear includes foils, epees, sabers and both European and Japanese protective items. The Japanese kendo hand and head “armor” are genuine antique collector’s items.

Among the above mentioned politically incorrect items are two crossbows. A small modern one … and … a large medieval replica made of wood and sinew. Bolts are available for both crossbows.

On a more domestic front, we have a really nice almost-new deep-fat-fryer and three “in-the-box” infrared air fryers available at low prices.

For the preppers and adventurers, we have a cuddly flannel lined large sleeping bag, a brand new two room “instant-up” tent, a never used four burner propane stove and a really nice (and hard-to-find) two-burner unleaded-gas burning Coleman camp stove.

And, last-but-not-least, for old tool enthusiasts, we have an antique two-man saw, an ancient blacksmith-made cedar shingle splitting froe … and … limbing hatchets and axe heads galore.

The Pre-Death and Once-in-a-Lifetime Estate Sale, will happen Saturday (August 31) from 1 PM until 5 PM.

See you Saturday, at the location below (which is in West Seattle, very close to Chief Sealth High School on Thistle street!

    Longfellow Run Condominium
    8424 – 26th Ave SW Unit C
    Seattle, WA 98106

Park on 26th Ave please. There is a short walk down a concrete path to Unit C, which is on the left of the path.

PS: Early birds will be asked to good-naturedly stand in line outside until 1 PM.

PPS: PLEASE: don’t inquire about items as I don’t have time to answer everyone’s questions due to other obligations. I believe the best decision you can do for yourself & your money is see an item in person, touch it, feel it, etc in order to get a true idea of condition so you can make an informed decision.

PPPS: Resellers are welcome … but … will find that our asking prices are more suitable for end user collectors. This event is not an “all things must go” garage sale. The items we are offering are of high quality and quite unusual … so … expect fair prices, not low prices. Never-the-less, up-to Half-off pricing will be available for some items.

PPPPS: Cash is very much appreciated.

I’m a little hesitant at this point to get too specific as to doctors, but it was the former Polyclinic (now Optum). Their doctors are very highly rated, but trying to get through to anyone is virtually impossible, and getting information – especially accurate information – is like pulling teeth. Several years ago I was a patient at Clearvies, and my experience there was far worse. The doctor essentially accused me of being a criminal because I’m on Medicare and needed assistance, as Medicare does not cover vision (well, narrowly for certain conditions). It was extremely humiliating. Medical care in general has deteriorated pretty badly, but opthalmology seems to draw a lot of complaints.

Why is Origins is allowed to put up there own parking signs for what amounts to a block of already limited parking in the Junction. They made their own parking rule for a large amount of 15 minute parking. I hope when I go by today that parking enforcement has taken it away.

Headed up to Safeway this morning stopped at 45th and Admiral as a woman had activated the flashing light. As she was crossing a young woman was a bit behind her pushing a baby stroller. From my 1st view of her until I drove past she had her cell phone held up in front of her face and clearly was only paying attention to whatever she was looking at. She never looked left or right. And who said fentanyl was a bad drug…..

Thank you for posting this, I always looked for his miws handle in posts. Mike was a stellar guy and I was honored to have followed his journey out of Nickelsville and help him when he set up his apt in White Center supplying everything he needed to set up his bathroom — it was an honor to have been able to meet him in person. He will surely be missed.
