    Todd,

Come on! I do not think power consumption is dropping. But, feel free to continue the use of 100 watt incandescent light bulbs if it makes you feel better!

    Our power is cheap.

Single BOB’s go up to 100 lbs I tihnk. A tall 4 year old might be a bit squeezed into it though, but it can definitely handle the weight.

It sure is funny that they spend all this time and effort getting us to switch over to compact flouresent bulbs, that we are now using less electricity that ever before, they keep jacking the rates up.

I have been shopping for one for my 4-year-old. We are planning a trip to Walt Disney World this spring. So far the best ones I have found are a Maclaren up to 55lbs and tall enough to support the head and keep feet off the ground. I am also considering the City Mini by babyogger. It goes up to 50lbs

I think that the rule is that ANY school in the same district that met AYP is supposed be an option. You should be able to go to the OSPI website and find out which schools in the the SSD passed/did not pass. The specific rules should also be somewhere on their site. Unfortunately if everyone moves their child to an AYP passing school, then those schools become overcrowded. You might want to look at whether your own child is passing the standards, and if they are, is it really worth moving them? Social and emotional adjustments of moving to a new school can affect your child’s performance too.

I highly recommend a Chariot stroller. They’re expensive, but worth it. They hold up to 100lbs. They have a jogger wheel attachment, and bike attachment that can be purchased separately. We primarily use the stroller wheels on the front. They work well in all types of weather (even snow with the jogger wheel on front) and one model has a rain guard too. They are very durable, well-built and have very little resistance when pushing the stroller–nice for WSeattle hills. They are sold at REI. Unfortunately they are difficult to find used since they are used for so many years! I have friends that have a 6yr old that still uses theirs and they’ve had their stroller since she was an infant. Good luck!

I have a 4 year old son, and sometimes he just gets tired when we walk. So I am looking for a big kid stroller, that fits more then 45lbs! He is also tall, so the regular (baby) strollers do not work.

    Hello!

My brother is moving back to the Seattle area due to a promotion in his job. He has a 50lb boxer and is looking to rent a pet friendly house/condo in or around the West Seattle area immediately…also looking for rent under $900. We have searched well known places i.e. Craigslist, Seattle Rentals, Rent.com…I thought I would ask on here. Thanks for any help any of you might have!

    Cheers!

“Rumors” — Neil Simon’s send-up of the murder mystery genre, is showing at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center as per the card below:

Youngstown is at 4408 Delridge Way SW

See the full info on the Blog Home Page.

    ****************************************************************************************

I attended the opening show Friday evening, courtesy of West Seattle’s Twelfth Night Productions, who, hearing of my awesome ability to sway public opinion, tried to bribe me with a pair of free tickets.

    (Pssst! It worked!)

I won’t spoil the plot for you on this one. In fact, I don’t think I could if I wanted to. It all happened so fast, I’m still not sure whodunnit. Or what exactly was the it they dun did.

There was some gratuitous cussing, though. I’ll tell you that much.

And there was violence. Albeit implied. Cheesily so.

There was a cop who reminded me very much of Bill Murray. And a politician who reminded of . . . well . . . a politician.

But mostly there was farce, as conceived by playwright Simon and crystallized* by an endearing crew of fun-loving, scenery-chewing locals.

    **************************************************************************************

Neil Simon must’ve written this play as a love offering to small theatre companies. It’s simple enough so that it can be done passably by your local high-school drama club, yet subtle enough to offer possibilities for actors wishing to seriously invest themselves in the characters.

I think Twelfth Night has done an honorable job staging this play, and I credit all the actors with doing their best with the material. I must confess that I’m not big fan of the theatre. The freneticism of the actors and the closeness of the stage tend to put me off. Which is why I have to give extra credit points to this particular crew. Yes, I felt slightly on edge for the first half hour, as character after character came bursting through the door with a hokey new plot twist. After the initial thunderclaps had passed, though, I started to warm to the characters and felt at ease, free to laugh along with the rest of the audience at the dopey situations and pratfalls.

Of course, with any story, told in any medium, there’s always that initial hump of believability and interest to be surmounted. But this is precisely why playwrights and local theatre groups have to be so much better than their TV colleagues (and also precisely why we should ALL go see an amateur play now and again).

Unlike TV producers, small, local theatre groups don’t have millions of bucks to sink into props and sets and computer animated sequences. They also don’t have the luxury of a whole season in which to develop their characters. And they DON’T have recourse to a laugh-track if the jokes fall flat. As a result, the locals try harder. And they put their hearts into it. —Which is why so much of what’s “live and local” is so much better, in my opinion, than the dead, canned dreck one so often encounters on television.

    But I regress . . . Where was I? Oh yes.

In keeping with its satiric, low-budget motif, “Rumors” doesn’t hesitate to lunge for a gag now and again. But don’t make the mistake of thinking Neil Simon (or Twelfth Night) has dumbed

anything down on us. It’s still a very artfully conceived and executed play. And if you’d rather sit there analyzing plot twists or deconstructing pop-culture jokes instead of laughing, no one would think the worse of you for it.

On second thought, nope. I take that back.

You’d be dumb if you didn’t laugh at the jokes.

(More info on Twelfth Night Productions to follow. Maybe. Depends on how much is left in the “Bribes” fund.)

Let me start out by saying that I have been faced with the decision of having to get rid of an animal that I wasn’t prepared for before and luckily it worked out that we were able to move to accommodate him when we were misinformed and got in over our heads. Not everyone is able to do this and it is absolutely heartbreaking to have to think about the prospect of giving up an animal. Of course it’s common sense but unless you have been in that situation before PLEASE do NOT assume that you know what you would do. You don’t. It’s awful and maybe this person is in a similar situation and is dealing with that struggle. If the dog is happy, the dog is happy. If there are no signs of neglect and the dog has access to fresh water and a shelter outside, leave it alone. If there are these signs, why are you posting it here instead of calling animal control?

This dog could be getting a stiff jog every evening, and the OP states that. Instead we have a situation where we are making implications that there is animal neglect going on AND a description where an address could be easily found and this person harassed for what could be no reason.

It’s like judging someone’s parenting. It’s done all the time on this blog but I think it’s, largely speaking, presumptuous and rude especially when a person can be easily identified by the information provided. I think it’s great the OP was concerned, but I’m interested as to why it needed to be discussed here instead of a letter in the mailbox, or heck if you’re that concerned, a call to animal control, as stated before. The concern is valid but the judgment and the airing of this information in a forum is inappropriate and negligent in terms of the owners safety and the dog’s.

I realize it was not the OP that stated where this dog lived exactly but this has taken on a bent that could lead to some serious issues, IMHO.

I second Lien but also want to give a shout out to WS Animal Hospital. Our 90 lb Lab was in distress yesterday and even though they are not our usual vet they were open on Sunday (when many vets are closed) and took us right in. Thanks to WS Animal Hospital and Dr. Quincy our guy is resting easier today and we didn’t have to make the trip to Lake City for the 24 hour emergency vet!

Two dogs, running together, no owner in sight (off leash). One is an older boston terrier or french bulldog (or something similar) – Black/White, approx 30 lbs. The second is a mid-sized mix – possibly border collie or shepherd mix with retreiver or black lab – all black w/ long coat. Black dog had no collar, smaller black/white dog did, but ran away when I tried to approach him/her to look at it.

Black dog was friendly, but ran after his compadre before I could tie him up.

They ran toward the lookout south of Genesee on 55th. They were headed toward Me Kwa Mooks park before I lost them.

If they’re yours, hopefully it helps find them.

Glad your Pug found his way home.

I thought I would share my pug story since people were wondering why he might have travelled.

I was in fremont at a show one evening in February, and it got out around 1AM. As I was walking to my car a very friendly and cold pug came up to me and my partner. He was super friendly but was not doing well on the very cold night. He let us pick him up and was super affectionate, but he didn’t have a collar. We stood on the street for about a half an hour waiting for someone to come claim him, he just patiently sniffed around us and wanted us to hold him when he started shivering.

Finally, after waiting for 30 minutes, we decided to just take him home with us and figure out who he belonged too the next day. We lived on capitol hill at the time and he came home and stayed the night. My 20 lb Tabby actually liked him and they got along famously for the short time he stayed. In the morning we loaded him back in the car and drove to fremont to look for the owners. Sure enough there were signs on the poles by 10 AM.

We pulled the first sign we saw off a pole and this homeless man who was sitting near by said a young woman had put up the sign just 10 min prior. I asked him where a phone was, I was a late adopter of cell phones, and he pointed me down the street to the 7 eleven. He was a nice guy and came with us to the 7 eleven and paid for the phone call because I had no change on me.

Needless to say it was a tearful and happy moment when she got her wonderfully behaved little dude back. This happened about 5 years ago, and my partner has wanted a pug ever since.

So travelling pugs must not be that rare. :)

One of a kind Harry Potter Mini Cooper S- Asking $18,995 or best offer.

THIS IS THE PERFECT CAR FOR THE HARRY POTTER FAN!!!!ONE OF A KIND! NO

    OTHERS OUT THERE LIKE THIS!!!!

What will you be arriving in when you show up to see the FINAL BATTLE in July?

Buyer gets a replica of the Sword of Griffindor as an added bonus (once car is paid for and title is signed over).

This beauty was made in Oxford England and then shipped to the US. It

was specifically made for the seller with………

    Approx: 52,800 miles

    -Limited slip differential (factory installed)

-VDO gages (Vault meter and oil temp gage/ factory installed)

    -XEON headlights

    -1.6 liter engine

    -16 valve 4 cylinder

    -supercharged in

    -168 horsepower

    -162 lbs/st of torque

    -6 speed manual

-top speed of over 130 mph

    -17 inch tires

-25 city 32 highway (gas mileage)

    -Equipped with DSC stability control

The colour of the car is called Purple Haze. It is a discontinued

colour that mini only used for two years. You can’t get a mini in that

colour currently. The pictures make it look more blue, but I assure

you the colour is a beautiful purple. The car comes with a little

bottle of purple haze and clear coating for minor scratches and bumps.

BMW makes Mini Coopers so you have a great mix of reliable German

engineering to the cute British style of Mini. (What a perfect car to

    have a Harry Potter theme!!!)

John Cooper designed Mini Coopers to be like a race car. And with the

supercharged engine you really feel like you are speeding (or flying?)

    down the highway!

It has “HP” painted on each door and the Hogwarts crest painted on the

hood. The artist who did the work put a “hallow” effect around the

crest which brings it out. The stripes on either side of the crest are

painted on (normally the stripes on Mini’s are actually stickers). The

artist also added a red stripe in the middle of the white. Which makes

it more unique) The golden snitch is painted on the gas tank cover.

This is all airbrushed on “NOT STICKERS!” (the special paint was done

to the car right after I got the car from the dealership).

There is a chrome sticker on the back of the car that says, “Harry

Potter LTD Edition”. This is to match the chrome Mini symbol.

The artist took off the clear coat, painted the Harry Potter symbols

on then put a metallic sheen over the car (this paint has different

colour of paint chips in it. Silver, red, blue, etc Great glitter

effect). This gives a beautiful effect in the sun or under street

lights at night. The car sparkles!!! It’s like magic!

He also painted the bumpers black as well as the bottom of the

sides of the car. This is a great accent.

I named her Siva and her name is on the license plate and has British flag valve covers on the tires

(one fell off, but she still has 3 out of the 4 covers.) Also she has

British flag side mirrors (these are a bit faded, but cheap and easy

    to replace).

This car is five years old so it isn’t perfect and I am selling her AS

    IS.

Besides minor fixable cosmetic imperfections (a few dings, scratches, etc.) this car runs beautifully. She

has NO mechanical problems and Mini dealership has been the only

people who have worked on her (besides the tires). She is current on

her oil changes and check ups (including the brakes). Only takes

    synthetic oil and premium gas.

The supercharged engine makes it so much fun to drive. You can really

    feel the power of her.

Having a convertible makes it way more fun than having a hard top.

Feeling the wind through your hair is unbeatable.

Normally mini coopers have run flat tires since there is no room for a

spare. But, right now Siva has normal tires. A light come on when a tire is low so I never have a problem with it.

There is still a Maintenance Warranty on the car. It expires 21st,

December, 2011 or 100,000 miles. The Warranty is good for

    ~Break Pads and Rotors

    ~Break fluid services

    ~Wiper blades

    ~Oil services

    ~Inspection

    ~Micro Filters

    ~Coolant flushes

I always get great comments on this car and people really do turn and look.

Just think driving this car to a Harry Potter event! Pulling up in

this car at the new Harry Potter theme park would make you

    unforgetable!!!!

Don’t let this unique car get away! Be the envy of all Harry Potter fans!!!!

Buyer is responsible for pick up. Located in Seattle. Below is a link

that I set up for this car. There are plenty of pictures that show the

process of the paint job and close ups of the symbols.

    http://www.freewebs.com/siva-harrypotter/sivapics.htm

There are current pictures of the car below. Please let me know if you

    have any questions.

This car is not associated with J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros., or any of

the individuals or companies associated with producing and publishing

    Harry Potter books and films.

Corner of 45th and Hanford in the Admiral area. We have a new pile of cherry wood chips, sticks and other mulch, thanks to an arborist working in the area. The mulch is fragrant and clean. Bring your wheelbarrows, bike trailers, car trunks and pickup trucks and have some (don’t be greedy). Stop in and say hi if you’re feeling neighborly.

JoB: I totally agree with you about the race/intelligence issue. But please please PLEASE, let’s avoid using the term “racist” every time someone mentions the words “race” and “education” in the same breath.

If someone makes a race-related claim that you consider stupid or backwards, the best way to refute that is to come back with: Oh yeah? Where’s your evidence for that? Or ask the person to look at the matter in a different way. In other words, educate them.

Ken: Of course you’re right about the Dixiecrats, but they were members in good standing of the Democratic Party and they did help many liberal Democrats (like LBJ) stay in power.

Politics make strange bedfellows, don’t they?

That’s why I say: Be careful who you dis during the day, because you’ll just have to un-dis again before you go to bed.

Homer – I’ll second CJ, we too have a Miele and it’s pretty good and actually had a great experience at Albert Lee for the D/W and numerous other appliances. (Talk to Ken Potter)

HOWEVER, if we had to do it over again, we’d get a BOSCH (I think that’s how you spell it) but wanted all the appliances to match. Hear from friends that they are the quietest and clean the best, top notch all the way. (My husband still talks 3 years later that we should have gone with the BOSCH).

I’m not sure what your budget is, but I have to put in a plug for the Miele line. My dishwasher is absolutely the best I have ever used. Beautifully designed. Super quiet. Ultra efficient. Leave it to the Germans to figure out how to manage to get everything sparkling clean despite the fact that the dishwasher uses less water than just about every other dishwasher out there. I never pre-rinse anything. I just don’t have to.

I’ve used my Miele heavily for going on five years and I’ve had no problems with it at all. The only downside was that I had to deal with Albert Lee who weren’t the most responsive people to work with. For me it was definitely worth the price premium.

We inherited a BOB double stroller. It’s an older model, pre-Revolution. We also own a BOB single that IS a Revolution. What a world of difference! The front wheel of the Revolution is free to turn instead of tracking in a single line. If we could afford it, we’d upgrade to the double Revolution, but it was free, so can’t really complain too much. Just glad we didn’t pay for it. Super cumbersome when trying to turn, with 50 lbs of kid weighing down the stroller!
