Everything is being hacked.

We’ve had our credit cards hacked 3 times in the last 3 months and had to cancel the accounts and get new cards each time. One of the new replacement credit cards was hacked before we even received it! Somebody in the UK put a charge on a new credit card less than a week after the new account was generated and before the card ever got delivered to our mailbox.

In recent news, 10 million healthcare records were hacked at Blue Cross Blue Shield –

PNTA is looking for part-time Event Support Associates to work on an on-call basis in and around Seattle. Your primary responsibility as an Event Support Associate is to help with set up of equipment for live events including lighting, stages, audio and video.

As an Event Support Associate, you work under the supervision of the Event Project Lead and interact often with other staff on site. Generally speaking, you respect authority and collaborate well with other crew members on the job site and are kind and courteous to clients. Attention to detail is critical.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

– Set up events. You respond to and follow your Lead on site. You are a master at erecting a stage at three o’clock in the morning, during an absolute downpour. The idea of running cable through a forest in the middle of the night doesn’t even give you pause.

– Run events. Lighting. Audio Video. Experienced generalists with a couple of disciplines in which they excel do very well as part of a PNTA crew.

– Break down events. Again, you respond to and follow your Lead on site. As you break down a stage, that odd sticky spot doesn’t even consciously register, because you are focused on getting the job done efficiently and safely. No part of the job is beneath you, and you proactively offer help wherever you might be needed once your assigned task is complete.

Other Duties:

– Maintain a safe work environment.

– Assist in warehouse pulling gear for events, as directed.

– Display a high level of professionalism with clients and coworkers.

Qualifications:

– Ability to drive a 14’ to 24’ foot truck is highly desirable. A clean driving record is a must.

– Must be able to stand, walk, bend and lift gear up to 50 lbs for the majority of an eight-hour workday.

Very good point. There’s no doubt it’s both. Perhaps some wishful thinking, but very large birds like ravens need a substantial and dependable food source and some “elbow” room. In addition, there are historical reports of area ravens that then disappeared.

Yes, there is often some habitat overlap between the two, but as a generality: ravens prefer wilder, higher, contoured elevations with scattered woodlands -or larger areas of open space than cities offer (like rural areas). NW coast ravens are better adapted for native wooded habitat and SW to open desert areas. Notice that the most common raven sightings in WS are near wooded areas -Duwamish Greenbelt and Lincoln Park.

Generally: Crows prefer open, broken habitats with scattered trees, so ‘burbs with open lawns and dotted with trees are fairly familiar and comfortable habitat for them. As you pointed out, the more we develop wooded areas the more we create workable habitat for crows and less for ravens.

As to ravens being common in some cities and dumpster diving: Humans share the preference for a more crow-style habitat and especially with a water view, easy access to food and fun. However, like crows, we can’t all live where we thrive and prefer, so have to adapt to the real estate available with resources we have. Corvids, as most animals, have to fight for productive, healthy and safer real estate. So the toughest and smartest birds get the best “lots” (territories). Perhaps the weaker “poorer” or the most resourceful ravens end up city dwellers.

I don’t know about the frequency of ravens vs. crows in the dumpster arena, but corvids are huge opportunists (like humans) and dumpsters, as well as dumps, are simply easy chow – a McRaven’s if you will. Bald eagles do the same near fish processing in Alaska. Why go out and spend a bazillion calories hunting when you can hang around and eat fast food? Nonetheless, a fast food diet is not the healthiest and any food source like an open dumpster will still be subject to domination by rank and territory,(usually ravens over crows). It will be interesting to see what happens as the raven and crow “Dumpster Clans” are forced to continue to adapt (reverse course?) as cities develop far better closed containers /systems for food waste.

too often we forget that our leaders are people who are often as easily hoodwinked as we…

thus the fall of the promising Jon Edwards

and the absurd belief in the system that those who chose to work within it instead of following the clarion call of rebellion had in “the” experts.

You easily accept that you learn from being hoodwinked

but assume that the wife of the former President who you assert must somehow have had a power to manipulate the strings of government that few women accessed at the time and who has certainly seen and felt more of the disenfranchisement of women than we is incapable of gaining such wisdom.

i would say that she has had plenty of opportunity to learn from not only her own mistakes but those around her.

and i believe she has learned. You don’t.

I too have admired Bernie. I still do. He has displayed a clarity of ideology over the course of his career that is impressive… and had been an incredibly effective voice for those who felt the slide of the democratic party down the abyss to the right…

He has done so by being a constant irritant to both the left and the right… which makes me wonder how he can be expected to magically build the kind of coalition it will take to build consensus.

He is quite simply not suited to it. The very outsider quality that makes him the ideal person to galvanize a jaded nation is the same quality that will make it nearly impossible for him to lead it.

that’s a tragedy.

but, those lips that you say have touched filthy lucre have also learned how to build coalitions within the system to get things done… and the things she worked to get done in the Senate were predominantly the right things…

she often worked in tandem with Bernie towards shared goals.

the two candidates are pretty much lockstep when it comes to domestic policy.

where they diverge is where i think Hillary still has her greatest weakness… in foreign policy… she is still far too much of a hawk for me…

the tragedy of those of our generation who chose to work within the system was too much time spent at the knees of those constantly replaying the high points of the greatest generation and their world changing use of the American military muscle.

still.. she has had a lifetime to learn the lessons not only of Vietnam but Korea… and every other dirty modern conflict.

After spending time in international negotiations.. Hillary is not looking as hawkish these days…

but who knows what the need to look tough in the face of anti-feminism will cause her to do?

what the need to appear unprejudiced and open minded did to Obama was not a good thing for this country.

prejudice is an ugly thing and overcoming it too often undermines reason.

Bernie won’t willingly lead the nation down the abyss of war..

but will he have the diplomatic skills to prevent it?

I don’t know. I don’t see it.

What i see is a man who has lived his ideals… and i admire him greatly for that.

But is Bernie the man we want to be?

that would be a wonderful thing for America

or is Bernie just not them?

I want a woman in the White House.. because we have seen that when the women of the house and the senate get together behind legislation we get function.. not just more empty form.

I am not going to be bought off with slogans. i want results that translate into improved quality of life for all of us… even for the fellas.

And I want that woman to be Hillary… because she has the experience to get the job done.

women don’t think that glass ceiling is in thousands of shattered pieces.

Women retiring today who have worked their entire working lives will be getting a third less in their social security payments than their male contemporaries… and it’s not because they took their work less seriously than men did..

it’s because of a lifetime of lower wages and lower expectations of moving up the wage ladder.

that glass ceiling isn’t overhead.. it’s the window those women will be looking through at the opportunities denied to them in their retirement for no reason other than the accident of their sex at birth.

the bill for that oversight is going to be much larger than anticipated.. women live longer than men and just like interest.. that underfunding is going to accumulate and create some very nasty surprises.

I don’t think any of us can afford the current head in the sand it’s not really a problem any more mentality…

sexual inequality needs to be acknowledged and fixed now while we can still afford to make the necessary adjustments to our national bottom line.

AS much as i love Bernie.. and i have always loved Bernie.. he isn’t the person to get that job done. Hillary is.

I think that the fact that she is a woman who has been a consistent supporter of women’s equality is a huge bonus… not just for women but for our society as a whole.
