The problem with that analogy DP is that with legalizing the pot you’re talking about increased control (full unregulated legalization of cannabis is a pipe dream), while putting liquor in grocery stores decreases the government control of the substance. The cannabis market is currently in a state of anarchy with occasional police interdiciton while the booze market is fairly locked down. Two opposite ends of the spectrum.

Also, as one may be aware, abusing mj and booze have very different effects on the human body and mind from one another, it’s an apples to oranges comparison from that perspective.

This is something we have struggled with off and on here on the forum and i thought perhaps it might be easier to see when it doesn’t involve any of us personally.

Although it can hurt to see your ideas attacked… attacking ideas is very different from attacking people.

my isp is my former employer (wolfenet). I was the network operations manager at the time of DSL roll out in Seattle.

I admit the ISP end was setup with no limit and several features not available to casual customers, but I was told the limiting factor for current speeds below 1.5 was the setting in the ISP end of the circuit. Now that I think of it, since I use transparent bridging (RFC1483 Bridged) the carrier qwest cannot limit my speed below the ATM wirespeed of the dslam I am connected to at the CO. PPPOE and PPPOA customers would be different since qwest owns the first tcp/ip hop in the network path.

i am currently running 256kbps DSL on qwest lines with a second-party ISP based in vancouver, WA. and i have been for about 10 years. i was one of the first private citizens in the city on the DSL bandwagon.

As the deadline for residents in South Seattle to apply to receive FREE TREES for their yard or parking strip approaches, I need your help to get the word out! We have had in incredible response so far and 450 trees have been requested-but we have more left to give. The Trees for Neighborhoods program is a partnership between the city of Seattle and EarthCorps designed to increase the city’s tree canopy coverage by distributing free trees to interested residents for planting on private and street right-of-way property.

This position is responsible for the overall care of children in the Intergenerational Learning Center. REQUIREMENTS

Education: Associates degree in Childhood Development or at least 12 credits of Early Childhood Education as determined by the program manager. Must be registered in Washington STARS Registry for early childhood personnel. If teacher has earned the 20 Hour Basic Certificate in a previous year, s/he must accumulate 10 clock hours in early childhood education, with 4 hours in diversity education annually.

Licenses/Certifications: First Aid, CPR (infant, child, adult cards) and AIDS/HIV Certificate required. Candidate must also attend an annual Blood Born Pathogen class and get a Food Handlers Permit within 90 days of hire.

Experience: Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. Three years experience related to early childhood teaching outside Providence Mount St. Vincent (PMSV) or two years experience in Intergenerational Learning Center at PMSV preferred.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and

female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of

mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you

clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in

Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price

for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in

her period of Menstrual uncleanliness – Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how

do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates

a pleasing odour for the Lord – Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbours.

They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig

makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two

different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments

made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also

tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to

all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them?

Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family

affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I have to point out that the seperation of church and state is NOT specifically present in any form in the Constitution. It was an idea that was supported first by a sitting president in 1802 in a letter to the Danbury Baptists by then president, Thomas Jefferson.

This is one of the primary places where we devise that the Founding Fathers were in favor of non-theocratic form of government, unlike the Christian Extremists that are attempting to further hijack our government in the name of god and “HIS” teachings (so far as their selective readings of those “teachings” are).

Thank you, Carson. Washington already bars the sale of alcohol between the hours of 02:00 and 06:00 (those early-morning “after-party” hours JoB is referencing). You cannot buy beer or wine during that time *anywhere* in our state. I assume that law would be applicable to hard alcohol, as well.

The fear surrounding I-1100 is ridiculous. Our lawmakers are not complete idiots. There would be measures enacted to control liquor sales and to adequately tax them, just as in almost every other state.

Why can’t sensible laws be passed limiting liquor sales? Many many states don’t sell after a certain hour (8pm in CT, 11pm in MA). Why can’t they limit the number of places that sell hard alcohol like they currently do with restaurants? Everyone assumes if one of both of these passes that it will become the Wild Wild West. The incident occurred Sat morning 9/25/2010, at approx 9:35 AM and involved a woman driving a Blue Oldsmobile and a bicyclist on a blue Specialized Cross bike.

dhg, no I didn’t have them in West Seattle, I had them in a Queen Anne apartment. They were mostly in smallish containers (one per container – they are cannibalistic, after all) neatly arranged in bookcases. Most of the 600 were spiderlings, the result of an all-too-successful mating of two curly-hair tarantulas. Eventually I donated my ‘collection’ to a University in the midwest.

CBoffoli, birds DO eat spiders – a lot of them. I’ve seen birds hovering in front of one of the large orb weavers webs (so misappreciated on this thread) ready to pluck it out like a tasty gumball. Hummingbird nests contain a high quantity of spider silk, and they enjoy spider snacks as well. Some Amazonian tribes roast and eat large tarantulas, using the sizable fangs for toothpicks afterward. However, the greatest predator of spiders is other spiders.

BigPhil, I have to admit that when you mentioned in your initial post that you moved here from Colorado Springs, I was the slightest bit… curious, we’ll say, about how “Colorado Springy” you are. I have read a lot about how conservative that city is, and yes, how evangelical the population tends to be. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, of course, but I came from a decidedly non-religious background (not atheist, but certainly not devout), so I don’t generally relate well to people with very strong religious convictions.
