beachdrivegirlParticipantSo a new rant to the driver of the black toyota 4runner with license plate cover from the Lee Peterson Yakima dealership. Your driving this morning was beyond eratical on the brideg and you were driving in the PARKING LANE!! on 1st AVE S. Slow Down before you kill someone!

JoBParticipantI suspect some famous people choose to live in West Seattle because they can drive to the local grocery or bookstore and shop without fear of being accosted…
or maybe even drop in to hear a fellow musician play without stealing their show…
This is a good place to be just a little bit different… and still not stand out in a crowd.

JoBParticipantDo we really believe all driving conditions are equal… as the driver’s manual would have us believe?
This started with someone passing on California Ave….
and i really don’t see why that is legal.
Yes, i did follow the code.. but isn’t there something in there about safe conditions as well? that doesn’t mean just snow storms or heavy rain.
I should think that alone would rule out passing in a highly urban environment.
forgive me, but i don’t think it is appropriate to pass in an urban environment unless you have a lane and can actually see if there is anything in front of the car you are passing…
or unless you pullout slowly and cautiously to pass a car that is stopped…
have we forgotten pedestrians, bicyclists, dogs or car doors opening to exit after parking?
Perhaps the person who is not rushing to fill the gap you see in traffic sees something you don’t.. or has been the recent recipient of someone else’s carelessness.
As for urban arterials with two lanes.. if you try to use the left lane for passing, you will be bobbing and weaving in traffic each time you encounter a car that wants to turn left…
Is it legal? maybe. is it safe? no.
How late will you be to wherever it is you are going that is important enough for you to pass in urban traffic if you hit someone?
That should be worth thinking about…

JoBParticipantYour off leash dog isn’t just a threat to others… your precious pup is in danger every time you let it off leash.
How do you know that the leashed dog your pup rushes up to play with isn’t aggressive?
How do you know that the person holding the other end of that leash will be able to control their dog?
How do you know someone hasn’t left something unsafe for your dog to eat just out of your eyesight but not out of your dogs ability to smell?
How do you know someone didn’t change their antifreeze or spill something equally toxic in the parking lot or by the side of the road?
How do you know your dog won’t rush up to someone who is deathly afraid of dogs and arms themselves as a result?
How do you know your dog won’t follow someone else’s ball.. or a rabbit.. or a squirrel.. or a bird out into the street? Or otherwise venture out into traffic?
How do you know some sadistic kid or drunk won’t decide to play “points” chasing down dogs across the park with a car or motorcycle?
How do you know your dog is safe if it isn’t on a leash by your side… or at the least on a flexi leash under your control?
I used to walk my akitas without leash in a far less urban environment and now understand just how foolish that was….
i was lucky… will you be?

KayleighMemberHow come it’s okay for the speeders to police the road and control others by asking that they speed up or move out of the speeders’ way…
but it’s not okay for slower driver to simply drive at a reasonable pace (which these days is 5 MPH over the speed limit anyway) in the right hand lane?

TheHouseMemberSorry I’ve been quiet on here lately! I’ve been out of town and have flipped my world upside down by getting a new computer.
Anyway, I plan on being at Admiral Pub Saturday night. Are we still going to be able to buy raffle tix the day of the event?

WSBKeymasterP.S. this is not disclosing anyone’s personal address so far as I am concerned but a semi-amusing side note, speaking of mailing addresses … when we got our official WSB mailing address at Stor-Mor late last year, it was partly because it seemed to be Mailboxes of the Stars … while researching WSB celebrity blurbs in the past, I had noticed that same mailing address for at least two of the people mentioned in this thread. Not that I’ve ever seen ANYONE else when we go by to pick up our mail, though, famous or otherwise!

WSBKeymasterI believe Ann Rule lives more toward Burien, somewhere overlooking the water, unless she has very recently moved. We used to call her for interviews from my ex-tv station every time some notorious murder case came up for discussion, and that’s where we were always sending our crews.

April 16, 2008 at 4:03 am #586767Topic: RANT: Highpoint dog owners
in forum West Seattle Rants & RavesAnonymousInactiveI’m sorry my temper got the best of me and I yelled at you to put your dog on a leash. I am just so frustrated with your continual lack of respect and consideration for others. I know your big black rottweiler, lab, akita, etc. is the sweetest, most wonderful dog in the whole world. I’ve owned them too. And I’m sure you truly believe they will always come when you call them and you have complete control. It just isn’t true.
I had to change directions 3 times tonight for loose dogs and it’s the same thing every GD night. Of course *your* dog wouldn’t hurt mine. I’m quite sure the owners of every dog who has caused death or injury felt the same way. And my young unsocialized puppy, would beg to differ as well. She doesn’t know she shouldn’t instigate a fight she can’t win, and your dog could take her out in one bite.
Please remember the play fields at Highpoint are not for your enjoyment only. Besides the signs EVERYWHERE saying no dogs off leash, you continue to think you are special, and rules don’t apply to you. Why? Help me understand that mentality?
I’m not normally an a..hole, but I’m really at my wits end. What would make you stop and think of others? Calls to animal control? Police patrols? Taking your license down? What? It seems a silly waste of money and resources, when you could just follow the law, and/or think of others.

WSMomParticipantHow is it “policing the road” when one is in the right hand lane going the lawful speed limit. I do end up going well over the speed limit on the freeway, just to be safe, even in the right hand lane. It sounds to me like people are more judgmental of slow drivers than of fast. Perhaps when gas goes to $6.00 a gallon (summer 2009???) people will feel like slowing down and enjoying the scenery.
April 16, 2008 at 2:12 am #621982In reply to: Bad driving
barmargiaMembershelbi, I don’t police the road, I don’t chase after people that are speeding. I was wondering what you expect me to do if I am driving the speed limit in the right hand lane and someone starts riding my ass because in their eyes I’m not driving fast enough. If I’m not in the passing lane, but minding my own business in the right hand lane and someone speeds up on me, am I supposed to assume that that person is more important than me so I should get off of their road? If they are speeding in another lane or passing me I don’t give a rat’s @ss.

WSBKeymasterNote from your friendly management: I do appreciate everyone’s restraint in avoiding posting addresses or explicit tips on how to find them, even if they are public record (those public records are not always mega-easily navigable so it at least provides a little bit of a buffer zone). Yes, these folks chose to be famous, but it does bring its vulnerability and potential stalker types don’t need any more assistance in tracking them down.
thanks,

shelbiMemberJans and barmargia – are you not also showing self-importance by trying to control and police the road? It’s so much easier to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. It’s just the flow of things, so someone is going faster than you that’s the space that they are in, if you don’t want to be in the space move out of the way. There is no point in judging them, it only creates frustration for you.

addParticipantJen, if you don’t get any takers, please consider donating to Westside Baby (www.westsidebaby.org). They are always in need of good car seats. They work with social service providers in West Seattle and White Center to provide baby items, clothes, and DIAPERS to families in need here locally. They’re located in White Center but have drop-off points in WS (West Seattle Kids, Fauntleroy Y and maybe one or two more?). Thanks!

addParticipantIt is offered at every public school in the fall, the deadline for applying is usually October 1. I’m pretty sure it starts in 1st grade. Ask your school’s principal or secretary for more info. If your application is accepted your child will be scheduled for , which is held at the school. A warning: testing for the younger ones (grades 1-3, I believe) is done in groups and is mostly verbal. For some kids that’s a hindrance.

barmargiaMemberOkay, so how about if I’m in the far right lane, going the speed limit because 1) I don’t want to waste gas, and 2) I don’t want to get a ticket, and someone is riding on my @ss…am I to move over to the shoulder and let them pass? Because everything I seem to be gathering is the speeders should have the right of way and the people going the speed limit or slower than the speeders should get out of the way.
