Topic: Junk Removal?
in forum WSB Reader RecommendationshemParticipantCan anyone recommend a junk removal company or person? Thanks!
stellaruffingtonParticipantI had to have one of my water heaters replaced. I called Southwest Plumbing and after getting their quote I decided to check elsewhere. I saw that someone suggested Joe the Plumber so I called him. He was here the next day, replaced the water heater and did it for HALF the quote from SWP. That is even less that what he ball parked on the phone for a rough estimate.

WSBKeymasterMissK – before we moved RRRs to the Forums, we did have a thread on which some recommendations were requested and made, just a few weeks ago – check out the comments here:
rcrawleyMemberOh, yes – how could I forget about Jaks? They do have a great burger.
MissKMemberJaks makes one of the best burgers I have ever tasted. Yummmm I think I might go get a burger tonight. :-)
rs261MemberJacks happy hour, best burgers for 5 bucks. I dont know if you can take them out, but sit down at the bar and have a wonderful burger!

LucyMemberLove it! Love it! Love it!

JanSParticipantI understand that you can take knives to be sharpened to the meat dept. at Westwood QFC…you might want to go and see if they’ll do your scissors for you…not sure of the cost, but it shouldn’t be a whole lot
JanSParticipantwhat? you mean I can’t advertise for free on here? party pooper ;-)
JanSParticipantCirca in the Admiral District has good burgers…call ahead for take-out…

JanSParticipantLucy,I agree…I much prefer Luciano’s over Amante’s. And Luciano’s now has a website where you can order online – love the hummus and spinach salad :)

LucyMemberI wouldn’t recommend Amante. We’ve tried them a few times and were pretty underwhelmed.
Luciano’s also has more than Pizza -Gyros, sandwiches, pasta, etc. They are much better than Amante, IMO.
Also, if you like Indian try Maharaja. It’s surprisingly good.
I’ve yet to find acceptable Thai delivery in West Seattle. For now, I’ll continue to get take out from Buddha Ruksa. The garlic chicken is to die for!
SueParticipantNot the junction, but Luna Park makes a good burger too – I’m partial to their Gut Bomb Burger – as healthy as it sounds :)
AlParticipantWe had to replace a sewer line, and some drainage, a few years back and used RayMark. They aren’t in West Seattle, but we thought they were fantastic. Little disruption of our yard, the job was done on time and UNDER budget. They also improved my great-aunt’s sewer system and made the previous company come back and fix their mistake, for nothing! Great people!
rcrawleyMemberElliott Bay Brewery has awesome burgers, and you can call in orders for takeout. My favorite is the Crumbled Bleu & Bacon burger. Delicious!

hemParticipantI *highly* recommend Ringo’s Landscaping. He cleaned up our overgrown lawn and beds, and he does almost anything (including hedges, I think). Conscientious, tidy, and a nice guy: http://ringolandscaping.com/

SueParticipantdunderp, thanks for the heads-up on the pastrami place – I work right near the Market, so I’ll be sure to stop on over and check it out. I don’t think I realized how much I missed pastrami until I was back in NY and walked into the Pastrami King and wanted to cry at the smell of the place. LOL!
House, I agree that Ho Win is more “east coast style” than a lot of other places. I still find it a bit mediocre (I’m with Kayleigh on her opinion of most chinese food in Seattle), but it’s closer than many other places. I still cringe at the mixed vegetables in my “eggdrop” soup though. And for what passes for an eggroll out here.

SueParticipantI like them. The format took a little getting used to since they’re very different than other forums I use, but they’re easy to use and it’s nice to be able to start a topic about something without hoping that you start it first, or hijacking another topic for something else. I’d love to see a “back” button though, or something to back to the main forum page – I didn’t find it instantly intuitive to click on the topic name to go back.
I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into the site!
serafinaMemberThere’s a place that has been there about 6 months called the Golden Thread and it is across from Corry’s drycleaner on California. In a small building on the left if you are going West down California toward Admiral. She did a great job, very professional and rates were fairly reasonable. She is my new tailor and I used to drive to the U Village!

MinoruMemberAmante on California has more than pizza and they deliver. We tried them once and they were just OK.
Just today we saw a van for “Restaurants to Go” (http://www.restaurantstogo.com/) driving around. Seems like they deliver from various restaurants in the city. Kind of like Kozmo, but just for food?

MinoruMemberShanghai Garden in ID is my choice, with their hand-shaven barley green noodles. Pot stickers using the same dough are also recommended!
MinoruMemberFor installing a new water heater we used Brennan (http://www.brennanheating.com/), and we were very happy with them — professional, fast, and reasonably priced — but I don’t know if they do what you need done.
I have heard great things about Guy Nelson from CBC Plumbing, but when I tried to hire him for something, he was too busy — perhaps a good sign.
December 27, 2007 at 9:06 am #586170Topic: Gyms and/or Personal Trainers
in forum WSB Reader RecommendationsMissKMemberHello,
As the New Year comes upon us so do the resolutions. I would like to kick start my fitness routine. I would love to find a gym or personal trainer that is in West Seattle. I belonged to All Star a few years back. I would like to get your take on the different gyms or your personal trainers. Also if you could include the cost that would be great too.
Thanks so much and Happy New Year

MissKMemberI would like to throw in my two cents and say that Diva Espresso makes a decent cup of coffee. C&P have GREAT baristas and the atmosphere is nice. Java Bean in my books is a NO GO!! I would rather wait in a line of 10 cars up at the 35th SBUX.

AdamOnAlkiParticipantI am so-far quite satisfied with the message boards. I have for some time been looking for a place to communally kvetch about the ridiculously long east/west traffic-light at California and Charleston. Now ‘the Blog’, as it is referred to be my close circle, has given me this opportunity.
Keep up the good work
