Right now, parents can probably get away with not vaccinating their children because most parents vaccinate theirs.. thus slowing down the spread of illness.
But.. and this is big.. with international travel so commonplace, the chances of your child being casually exposed to someone who is ill from one of the many contagious diseases we vaccinate against is growing exponentially. If you take your children out in public at all you run the risk of exposing them to contagion.
if your children play with other unvaccinated children, you are risking contagion.
I too remember what a big deal the polio vaccine was… many of those kids who survived their first brush with polio are now experiencing post polio syndrome which leads to early death… polio was nothing to sneeze at…
and i think i had every form of measles known to man plus mumps and chickenpox… chicken pox sets us up for shingles later in life:(
Not the sort of legacy you want to wish on your children just because you didn't want to make the effort to have your children vaccinated responsibly.
right now, thanks to all the opportunistic organisms left over from childhood illnesses, the flu is nothing to sneeze at for me..
so i hope most of you got your flu shots since I can't…
and i am not willing to isolate myself in my home to avoid contagion…
