I fully understand that there is a spectrum. The people who making these decisions are very zealous about their religious beliefs, but not really that “conservative” in the right to left spectrum, as they believe in more government intervention in the lives of Americans, not less.
I agree that this was not necessarily a “Christian” country – I never said it was. I said they BELIEVE it is.
It is a country founded on the rights of individuals to practice whatever religion they choose. And on freedom from tyranny and overbearing, unelected government. Unfortunately, we’ve lost sight of that.
Their extreme religious views have little to do with women and everything to do with their view of “life” and its beginnings. And they want to legislate that, which is crap, as we don’t need the government telling more people how to live their lives.
It’s funny that that same definition of life isn’t zealously protected when it comes to things like the death penalty, which the Catholic Church also opposes. But then again, they don’t believe Catholics are Christians…
It’s not a male vs. female issue. It’s a religion vs. state issue. They don’t believe men should trump women, they believe religion should trump individual freedom.
That is what’s unconstitutional about it – they’re trying to re-write history and the constitution. That’s why they want to amend the constitution for the first time ever to deny rights to a certain subset of the population – gays/lesbians. Thomas Jefferson must be turning in his grave right now.
We already litigated this 50 years ago. Equal rights won. Give it up already.
