we can celebrate a few American ideals together.

as long as there are republicans who are willing to talk, there is hope.
yes, i agree the need to hang onto fame and/or power by a few will try to drive the party further to the radical right…
but i have hope they won’t be successful.
I had long talks with my father-in-law who died recently about the power struggle in the Republican party.
After a lifetime of service to his party… including being active enough to end up at a couple of national conventions.. he just couldn’t bring himself to cross the political line even though he agreed more with democrats on most of the issues.
He really hated the power grab that was made for his party and the deviation from everything the party stood for.
It is a sad reflection that not one representative of the local republican party attended his memorial service … he had earned the right to a army honor guard at his passing… and deserved the same from the party to whom he gave a lifetime of service and substantial donations.
Were he still alive.. i am quite sure he would be working today towards taking his party back. i just have to believe that there are many like him who haven’t felt that they had enough support to begin the work.
Maybe Sarah Palin will have ended up doing her party a greater service than she intended..
because i think she has made many see how far their party has strayed.
