Community Halloween party and trick-or-treating at The Dragon House
Oct 31 @ 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Halloween party/potluck at The Dragon House On Halloween.

Over the last 20 years, Halloween, as a holiday, has gotten bigger and bigger. This year, Halloween is on a Friday evening, and it seems that there will be HUGE parties that night, and I know that many don’t want to go ALL OUT, but DO want to do something ON Halloween itself (especially if you don’t get a lot of trick or treaters, and you LIKE answering the door). With the art in the yard, my house tends to be a bit of a destination for trick or treaters (we usually get almost 50 of them)! Not to mention it’s listed on a few maps of notable trick or treat locations.

So, I want to host a low-key Halloween party on Halloween itself. If you want to do something more than stay home and ignore the evening, but you also don’t want to be at a crazy go all out party, this is the the event for you! Don’t want to wear a costume but you still want to be social? Great! Come on over (If you want to wear a costume, please do!) Don’t want to make an extravagant potluck dish? Great, bring something simple… or don’t bring anything. (but naturally, the definition of potluck is that if you don’t bring anything for it, you don’t partake) If you want to bring something yummy to share? Please Do! There will be no shaming anyone’s choices.

My intentions for the evening is to hang out with everyone that shows up, and to open the door when kids knock, and say Boo! I also plan to offer age appropriate banned books to the kids. (I mean, what is scarier to some adults than a book that might change a kids worldview!)

If the weather is nice, I’ll light the firepit in the front yard and we can hand out candy from there, and if it’s not, I’ll light the fireplace inside.

Over the last 5 or so years somewhere between 20 and 45 folks have shown up. a nice small intimate crowd perfect for taking turns telling stories in front of the fire. I have a piece of guerilla theater for the kids at the door if you happen to like fake spray on blood and want to terrify some parents… And as usual, if anyone wants a tour of the craziness that is the inside of the house, I’m happy to do that a limited number of times as well. We can hang out until people leave. Nothing stressful. Even if you want to just swing by with kids and knock on the door, I tend to give out good candy. so do that, and maybe even come in and stay for a bit and chat.

I’ll open the doors at 4:00PM? Hey, it’s low key, so this is more of a come on by any time kind of thing (well, trick or treating is over by 10 so we will probably close up around 11pm.)

I’m at 5284 44th Ave SW. right on the corner of 44th and Brandon in West Seattle. On that corner, there is the stump that used to be the perch of the 16 foot tall dragon that was carved out of that tree, and what is left there now, is the dragons owner… a naked woman with outstretched arms… The grand entry stairs are about 10 feet north of the female sculpture. If you have any trouble finding the place, just call (206) 932-6622.
