Color Me, I’m Sick: Art, History, and Seattle’s Music Scene

Join the Southwest Seattle Historical Society for our next Words, Writers, Southwest Stories on Thursday, November 14th at 6 pm via Zoom.

Join artist and author Bradi Jones for an engaging presentation on her grunge-era coloring book, which features iconic figures, bands, and venues that shaped Seattle’s music scene during the rise of grunge. Bradi will share her creative process, detailing how she meticulously designs the puzzles, creates hand-drawn illustrations, and develops the storylines behind each of her books. She will be accompanied by Peder Nelson, the adjunct curator of West Seattle’s music history, who will offer additional insights into the area’s rich musical heritage. Together, they’ll provide a captivating exploration of the connection between art, history, and Seattle’s dynamic music scene.

Bradi Jones is the artist and author behind a series of music-themed coloring/activity books, with her latest release, focusing on the grunge era and the Seattle Sound. The book, “Color Me, I’m Sick!”, showcases prominent figures and bands from Seattle’s vibrant music scene, during the late 80’s to early 90’s; highlighting iconic musicians, venues, and moments that defined the local landscape. Through collaboration with key figures from the era, she ensures her work authentically captures the essence of Seattle’s grunge movement.

Peder Nelson is the Digital Engagement Manager at the Museum of Flight and a historian of the Duwamish Peninsula. He Curates’ music history and actively contributes to the southwest Seattle Historical Society while being an engaged member of the local music community. A lifelong musician, Peder combines his passions for history and music to enrich his work and community involvement.
