WDGT Forest Restoration Celebration

Join the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails (wdgtrails.org) for a gathering and hike to celebrate the work Nature Consortium started nearly 30 years ago to restore the West Duwamish Greenbelt.

In 1998, Nancy Whitlock founded the Nature Consortium which merged into Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association in 2016. They created trails, removed invasive species, and replaced them with native flora and fauna, as well as providing environmentally focused arts education to West Seattle youth. For more information about Nature Consortium, see DNDA — Nature Consortium.

We will begin with mingling and some light refreshments with Nancy and others who have been restoring the greenbelt. The hike will visit several of the restoration sites so we can observe and celebrate how the greenbelt has survived and thrived. We will meet at 11 am on Saturday, August 16 at the Arboretum at the north end of South Seattle College, 6000 16th Ave SW. The hike will begin at 11:30 am.

The Ridge to River Coalition (R2RDuwamish.org) will also be in attendance. They are working on creating a vision and long-term plan to connect communities and restore the West Duwamish Greenbelt. They want to hear from you about what you love about the greenbelt and what concerns you have. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the greenbelt and to share your thoughts and ideas to help shape the future of the greenbelt.

The usual third Saturday 9:30 am guided hike with the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails group will also be happening and starting from the Arboretum and finishing in time for the refreshments and mingling at 11 am.
