  Safeway- good for you! Holiday pay for your staff AND probably open with half staff- major applause. And all the forgetful people or bad cooks can still get what they need!

  Yay to PCC and Trader Joe’s for being closed on Thanksgiving so their employees can enjoy the holiday with their family and friends.

  Those employees are most likely making double time and a half today. When I was working in the grocery business, holidays were the days I wanted to work. The pay was great on those days! Plus, those that got the holiday off were paid holiday pay. I think it’s a win!

  Actually thank you to Safeway for being open today, something happened with thanksgiving and I had to scramble to help make a dinner. So awesome that we could get it done

  Want to be sure you have the holiday of your choice off with your family? Don’t work for someplace that plans on being open on those days…easy.

  For those who object to people working on holidays, lets close down the PD, FD and the ER and all public transport including cabs and airports as well, they have families too.

  Can’t be sympathetic to some and not all can you?

  Since WHEN, exactly, was it a cardinal sin to have a store open on Thanksgiving Day?!  I have made “oh, I forgot that one last thing” runs to various grocery stores, large AND small, for over 30 years!  Yes, it’s a GREAT thing to honor this holiday properly, but as Jim P. noted above, unless y’all want the city to fall apart for the day, some folks have got to work on this and many other days that the rest of us have off, including “weekends.”  Perhaps a touch more consideration before knee-jerking out a post next time?

   Back in the day, over 25 years ago, I worked for Safeway and loved working holidays. Yes I had a family, but yes I loved making the extra dough and having a good excuse not to be with my family.  ;). I was NEVER forced to work, indeed, those shifts were prized because we DID make 2 1/2 times our hourly wage.  Plus, we always had a potluck for those of us working.  Maybe I am just fondly remembering my youth, and I do appreciate people being cognizant of workers, but let people be w/o trying to comment/fix upon what ain’t broke
