The Evergreen Community Aquatic Center’s first auction! Located in White Center, Evergreen Pool is a tremendous community resource that operates on an entirely non-profit basis. We need your help to continue to serve our community.

You may know that two years a group of interested parents and community leaders worked out an arrangement with the pool’s owner, The Highline School District, to open the shuttered pool. Since that time, we have taught hundreds of reduced cost or free swim lessons as a community service to White Center. We also lease space to several swim teams in the area with age ranges of five to seventy-five.

Although many of our swimmers are winning in the pool, financially keeping an aging pool viable with no assistance from the city or county is a battle we are struggling with. The facilities and the building were never meant to be in service as long as they have been. Every day, something breaks. In order to keep our prices affordable for the community, our revenues do not cover our cost of operation. Yet, we have never turned away anyone who cannot pay to use the facility. We are starting our auction tradition to seek the help of the greater community. You may not have a child who swims, but here are reasons why The Evergreen Community Aquatic Center is one of the very best things in White Center:

*A positive youth and family activity.
*An economically challenged neighborhood, White Center, needs good alternatives.
* Removing cultural barriers and fear of water that is present in many of our area’s immigrant groups.
*We are surrounded by water. The death rate from drowning is nearly twice the national average in low income areas.
*Creating lifelong fitness and activity habits and impacting the national epidemic of obesity.

We hope you can consider donating a product or service that we can sell at our auction at The Normandy Park Cove on October 13, 2012. You will be helping us serve our community and we will provide exposure to our swim community.
