Coyotes closure

No further details, but we have verified the reader tip (thank you!!!!) that a note on the door of Coyotes on Alki says “closed till further notice,” bearing yesterday’s date. Some may wonder if the 17-month-old restaurant has fallen victim to the curse of everything that’s been in there since The Point Grill (which we personally still miss), but it might just be closed because of the side-sewer work for which a permit was granted today.

While we were at Alki to get a visual on the Coyotes note … stopped for this gratuitous shot of the 4th-to-last sunset of Summer 2007:

Beautiful photo. And I hate to say it, but the base looks so right for that statue.

Coyotes is not a good place to eat. If it stays closed, no loss there.

  • A.M.D.G. September 20, 2007 (10:30 am)

Coyotes was discretely for sale earlier in the year. The owners have 3 restaurants on Alki now and maybe they just went a bridge too far?

The food and service and were never great and a few times even awful. Prime location though and we’ll see someone else give it a go soon enough.

Ah, yes, the EARLY Point Grill was great. They had a couple of servers who were truly top-notch, and the food was good. My wife and I wrote a letter in praise of the servers. They were gone shortly, and the place went downhill.

    We’re sorry. It’s been a jinxed spot since…

  • Luckie September 20, 2007 (11:40 am)

What did you eat at the Point Grill that makes you miss it? I had two of the worst-tasting restaurant meals of my life there, on two separate occasions, and never went back.

  • babs September 20, 2007 (11:46 am)

How about a small grocery store???

  • WSB September 20, 2007 (11:52 am)

Luckie — as might be obvious from our posts from time to time, we are not foodies in the slightest. So that said … our faves at the old Point Grill included the blackened salmon Caesar and the burgers. It was always the place we took people visiting out of town (we’re talking early and mid-’90s mostly) … for the view and decent basic food in a pleasant atmosphere at non-outrageous prices. These days, we take visitors to Duke’s for the same type of thing, but it wasn’t around then.

  • Luckie September 20, 2007 (12:06 pm)

The comment from GPS might explain my bad experience. I was there closer to the end of the Point Grill’s run. I’m not a foodie either, but I do have a vivid memory of flabby squash ravioli that tasted like it had been soaked in salt water. :)

  • A.A. September 20, 2007 (12:53 pm)

Every time I’ve passed that place it’s been full of drunken frat-boy types who are causing a ruckus. Never had any interest in going in as a result.

  • OP September 20, 2007 (1:07 pm)

Closing due to side-sewer work? Doubtful. It closed to the sewer-like Mexican(t) food it served. Taco Bell is better. And that may be an insult to Taco Bell.

  • Danno September 20, 2007 (1:34 pm)

    WSB-

You take people to Dukes for non-outrageous prices? Like $14 for fish and chips?

  • Jo September 20, 2007 (1:37 pm)

Since Pegasus is going to be the site of a new 2 story building soonly – I’m thinking maybe they’ll move Pegasus to the Coyotes space while construction is going on? Same owners and Pegasus is a moneymaker.
    What do you think? hmmm?

Ace: “but the base looks so right for that statue.”
Please email Pamela.Kliment@seattle.gov and tell her. She’s still accepting comments concerning the statue.
    Thanks.

  • flipjack September 20, 2007 (2:52 pm)

    Alki needs a strip joint.

  • OP September 20, 2007 (3:41 pm)

    Alki needs a strip joint.

    And a casino.

    LOL

  • Ron Burgundy September 20, 2007 (3:54 pm)

Flipjack – At the very least they need an adult video and cigarette store. I have to have to drive all the way to the Morgan Junction to get porn and smokes.

  • Todd in Westwood (Delridge) September 20, 2007 (4:19 pm)

Hey Flipjack, hows about a cheap fish and chip, strip club, porn store, coffee house, pet store that serves liquor after 7 pm?

  • Erik September 20, 2007 (4:52 pm)

Christ, we can’t even get a modest hotel down here…I have to clean up before the escort arrives.

  • WSB September 20, 2007 (4:57 pm)

Danno, the pricing referred more to Point Grill than to Duke’s — Duke’s is the same kind of atmosphere, view, menu. Pricier, yeah, you have a point.

  • chas redmond September 20, 2007 (5:08 pm)

If we’re gonna get a cheap fish&chips/strip club/porn store/coffee house/pet store – can it include teriyaki takeout for those of us in a rush?

  • pops September 20, 2007 (7:00 pm)

Early on The Point was the only place in West Seattle where you could get a prime rib dinner. It was simple, but well prepared. Their Sunday brunch salmon scramble was very good too.

One time we went to The Point and Jim Forman was at the next table. This was like early on jut after Forman got here and he was still in his I’M JIM FORMAN DAMMIT! mode. Other times we saw Ross Schafer, Steve Pool, and Brade Goode.

  • Erik September 20, 2007 (7:19 pm)

I thought Jim Forman only came down to Alki when the wind-whipped waves were crashing the beach. I always wanted to see the live report of him being swepted out to sea!
“This is JIM Forman, dammit, reporting…for KING5….heeeellllpppp……Jean!”

  • Erik September 20, 2007 (7:28 pm)

    sp* swept
Before the spelling nazis taser me!

  • Jan September 20, 2007 (11:36 pm)

hehehe…erik…spelling nazis. For those who have seen Jim Forman..does he ever smile?

  • Pelicans September 21, 2007 (1:13 am)

In our circle, he’s “DANGER JIM FORMAN!” Only shows when ‘it bleeds and leads.”

  • Pelicans September 21, 2007 (1:27 am)

    Dear WSb’ers,
What I posted was verifiable in public records. I wish you’d posted my complete entry.

  • WSB September 21, 2007 (4:46 am)

Betsy – we haven’t edited any comments in this thread (or any others currently active, for that matter), and there’s nothing left in the queue right now – what did you post that didn’t go through?

  • miws September 21, 2007 (6:41 am)

    Jim Foreman, AKA Parka Boy!

    Mike

  • Ron Burgundy September 21, 2007 (7:29 am)

I once heard that Jim Forman refers to himself as “The Ratings Machine”

  • Huindekmi September 21, 2007 (8:06 am)

My curse is an uncanny and unfortunate resemblance to “Danger” Jim Forman. I am NOT Jim Forman, dammit!

And I like the idea of the fish&chips/strip club/porn store/coffee house/pet store/teriyaki joint… but I’d also like to get my nails done while I wait.

  • J September 21, 2007 (1:00 pm)

That restaurant was gross. No loss that it’s closed. I wish an awesome restaurant would open up on Alki!

  • Jan September 21, 2007 (2:11 pm)

awesome…well, J, if you’re feeling flush sometime, go to Phoenicia….now that’s awesome food. Ask Hussein what he recommends…don’t order from the menu…you will be impressed…

  • Gina September 21, 2007 (4:51 pm)

Parka Man on Almost Live! just had to be based on Jim Forman.

  • miws September 22, 2007 (6:23 am)

I’d forgotten about that sketch, Gina.

I thought that I had gotten the term Parka Boy from the Pat Cashman fan site the Pat Pack, because we’ve used the reference there several times.

But, who knows, maybe Pat himself originally made reference(s)to PB on his radio show, inspired by that AL sketch!

    Mike

Sorry, comment time is over.
