West Seattle Food Bank holiday updates: How to help & get help

Just out of the WSB inbox, this update from West Seattle Food Bank executive director Fran Yeatts:

The West Seattle Food Bank will be changing hours during the week of Thanksgiving.

We will be distributing our holiday food on Monday, 11/23 for seniors from 9:30 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. and for the general public from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, 11/24 for the general public from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Any donations specific to the Thanksgiving holiday can be delivered on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or Monday, 11/23 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. We will also be here to accept donations from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 11/24 and Wednesday 11/25.

We will be closed at 3:00 on Wednesday 11/25, and all day Thursday, 11/26 and Friday, 11/26. We will resume our normal hours on Monday, 11/30.

Thank you West Seattle for your generous support!

We’ve got a followup question out asking if there’s anything in particular they need; the WS Food Bank is at 35th/Morgan (map). Meantime, remember the White Center Food Bank serves part of West Seattle too – it’s got donation information here.

Also, our neighbors over at the Rainier Valley food bank were burglarized and desperately need Thanksgiving donations.

Thank you danielle – I was just going to say that. They took all the food and all the money. Maybe West Seattle Food Bank can comment on how to help. I was thinking of sending a check to Rainier Valley.

Any information about places to volunteer to serve food on Thanksgiving? I know Fauntleroy Hall will be serving food. do they need volunteers? Who do I contact? Thanks.

Hi – we published an update on that a few days ago. They don’t need volunteers but various desserts are welcome!

United Way is giving all of their donations raised today as part of their Give 10/Tell 10 campaign to the Rainier Valley food bank, and is matching dollars raised. There is still time to donate if anyone is interested:

We’ll be collecting monetary donations and non-perishable food for the West Seattle Food Bank at our Beer Church Turkey Bowl this Saturday night, 6 to 9 p.m. at the West Seattle Bowl. The bowling is sold out, but anyone can stop by with donations.

@Voodoo Thanks for helping get the word out. People donated $3,576, United Way of King County matched it, and a grand total of $7,152 went to the food bank just in time for Thanksgiving.

Also, for anyone looking for holiday volunteer or donation opportunities, we have quite a few listed on our site: http://bit.ly/5NyXvk

Sorry, comment time is over.
