Condo name game, the latest

The place to play that game right now is on the south end of Cali; hot on the heels of NoMo 12 comes SeventyOne, a condo-conversion apartment building SoMo, er, south of Morgan Junction, having its first open-house weekend as we write, just days after the remodeling crews cleared out. It’s got its own hypey website, of course, which proclaims that SeventyOne “redefines style on California Ave.” (Pardon our obsession with accuracy, but must ALL these condo-marketing websites have typos? This SeventyOne page alone has four.)

I was surprised right from the get go when I looked that place up on DPD, as soon as I noticed the renovation getting underway, and saw that it was a condo conversion.

For those that don’t know, this is a two story building of the type that access to the individual units is from the outside, like a 1950’s-’60’s style motel.

I think that type of building is cool in it’s own right, reflecting the era it’s from, I just find it hard to believe that it would have any appeal as a condo.

That’s exactly how we heard someone describe the building, although in less complimentary terms — “Who would want to live in a building that looks like it used to be a Motel 6?” However, seeing some pricing under $200K, that may be the appeal.

Just received word that the large 3-story motel-style concrete block apt. building, the Ripple Rock, located on Alki Point is being sold for condo conversion.
Good Golly. Those units are like jail cells – 320 square ft, cold concrete block. But the best location on the beach.

I wish I had a dollar for every big sign I’ve seen promoting the newest CONDO’S! I have a theory about the misspellings and grammar errors in the world of real estate promotion, but don’t want to speak ill of anyone, especially on this blog.

Actually we didn’t count the punctuation errors but should have counted PIZZARIA as a fifth typo. The four we counted were: Cafe Ladro (it’s CAFFE), Cupcake Royal (it’s ROYALE), Bikrahm Yoga (it’s BIKRAM), and Divine (it’s DIVINA).
